I am replacing the original double chainset on my Genesis tarn 10 with a single chainring setup. The Tarn has been pretty much ride, Chuck in the shed and ride again so I am a bit out of touch with standards etc.
When did it get so f#@£ing complicated to buy a crankset and single chainring?
I will have another look at it tomorrow. Trawling through CRC ans all the other sites has made my brain hurt.
Set a budget, buy the shimano that fits.
Tell us what’s on there currently and we can probably help.
jam-bo is bang on, though if yr bike is boooosty you may need a different option compared a "classic" frame
boooosty babeh !! :
The simple option would be just to take the chainrings off the Chainset you have already, and buy a suitable single ring to fit instead... No? 🤔
Cranks don't wear out tho, just get a new chainring and BB.
Be careful. There is not a lot of clearance for the crank ends on th chain stays. On my tarn to I had to go with the wider raceface axle (143mm Vs the normal 136mm) to get acceptable clearance. As above I'd advise just swapping 2 rings to 1 if you can.
I have decided to stick with the original crank and fit a single ring .
When I removed it I had to drill out one of the pinch bolts on the no drive side but have now retapped the thread fitted a new bolt, ready to go.
About 2015 or 2016, IIRC.
Or was that a rhetorical question?
