Been sitting on this post as I've been a bit peeved about it.

2 1/2 weeks back crashed on a perfectly flat double track at... jogging speed. Front wheel went into a rut at an angle and immediately locked up. Went otb and landed on my right hip. Unfortunately my hip landed perfectly on the edge of the stone hard, foot deep, land Rover rut, so basically landed on an edge. Shouted out on pain and anger as it was a *ucking ridiculous crash. Normally just a laugh at my self crash but not this time.

Laid there for a bit then managed to stand up and ride sort of single legged home. Went to A and E 3 days later (coz I'm an idiot) as one butt cheek was the size of Kim Kardashian's, loss of sensation on right side of spine just above the tail bone and extreme pain when moving the leg in certain directions.

Doc checked me over a bit and said come back in 5 days if no improvement.

It didn't improve so went back 2 weeks later, today in fact (coz I'm an idiot.)

5 xrays and ultra sound. Nothing broken by look of it but lots of fluid in joint. Either leave and let dissipate over the months or syringe it out. We decided on syringe. 300ml removed. Hip feels great but it's still dead from pain killer. Be a bit sore tomorrow though I would think.

No turbo trainer for "a month" but I'm hoping that's pessimistic.

Good bless the NHS.

No reason for posting and not moaning (believe it or not) as I think I've been pretty lucky all in all.

Stay safe chaps and go faster, seems to hurt less then!

It happens, had similar a month ago on 417, wasn't 100% so shouldn't have been out, but came down slowly, changed my mind on the line and front wheel caught between two rocks, slow sideways down and somehow managed to get stabbed through the leg with my brake lever, 8 stitches later it's all good and been back on the bike a couple of days later, accidents happen, low speed, high speed, big and small.

Ahhh yes the dreaded cross-rutted, straight OTB and you smash into the ground before you know whats happened.

Front wheel washouts over the top of berms smack you down as fast and hard, couldn't breath/sneeze/sleep for a month after.

We heal eventually!

Took me a second or two to work out what I was looking at in that first pic.

Get well, take it easy.

Oooh. I feel your pain. Had a very similar bruise after looping out a fast manual on a rocky trail (long story, I can't manual (obvs), was using Spds and fork rebound was zero - a catalogue of errors).

Took 2 months to sit properly and the relief when it was eventually syringed... Soooooooo good! I'll never forget that!

Still got a numb spot on my bum and a lumpy bit in the bum cheek 18 month later.

My top tip is aggressive massage once the pain has subsided to get rid of any lumpy bits.

Heal fast 👊

I had a similar size bruise many years ago after a beer* at Houndkirk pub then ride home in the dark.
Although I didn't need anything syringing.

once interviewed a guy for fraudulently claiming benefits, asking why he claimed benefits and he stated he couldn't work due to a cycle accident - he went on to explain he had cycled for many years, done most of Europe, lots of mountain passes etc and had come off a couple of times, but the one that incapacitated him was outside his local Asda...a family in front on a path/cycletrack didnt move so he went on the grass, bike went under him at 4mph, caused huge damage to ribs and hips and was told by GP he would not be able to work again. After the interview he showed me the photos on his phone, gruesome (and life changing) injuries from such a ridiculous fall 🙁

Can't disagree there.

@pipiom yeah, bike fine.👍 Though lost the bloody Exposure mount on bars. About £16 I think, didn't notice till I got home. It was the plastic diablo type to QR bar mount thingy mag jig.

I did a similar thing years ago, with my lad who was 12 or so at the time, down a field track in the tractor tyre tracks, hit the side, went over the top, generally banged up, but my ankle hurt, like I'd severely twisted it.
Abandoned the ride 20 minutes later, made it back to the start on the road.
Pain got worse overnight, but I still thought it was a badly twisted ankle/ligaments.

Finally gave up on the following day and went to the hospital. Dislocated ankle. The front leg bone - (tib?), had jumped over its ankle joint bone, and was now around 10mm out of place.
The Dr was a pretty decent guy, and gave me a choice, stay overnight, we'll give you a good anaesthetic in the morning, and put it back, or do it the quick way, and I'll pull it now.

I opted for the pull it now, as the pain was getting worse. He called for 2 nurses to help him, they felt like a 300kkg weight on my leg. All he did was lie me flat on my back, legs flat, foot pointing down as much as possible, he then pulled my toes/foot back to stretch the joint, there was a crack, and I think I may have hit the ceiling as the pain was so bad. Then 2 minutes later, no pain at all.
It needed to be strapped up tightly to stop the joint moving, but otherwise felt fine. It did take around a year before it was healed, apparently a broken bone would have been better than ligament damage as they take so long to repair themselves. I've still got a weak ankle now.

It has taken me considerably longer than that! I'm there now though.
Get well soon @poopscoop.

Thanks all.

Last night and today has been a revelation. I could actually sleep on my left side. That doesn't sound much but I've only been able to lay on my back for nearly 3 weeks. Even laying on my "good" side tilted my pelvis and caused a lot of pain in right hip. It was SO nice just to be able to lay in a different position!

Just a little sore today... BUT NO AGONIZING, SHOOTING PAIN IN RIGHT HIP, IT'S GONE! (Sorry for going all Trump...) No idea how that fluid caused the terrible pain it did though, most odd?

Really glad I decided to go for the syringing. Feel so much better already.👍
