Going 27.5" soon so need a new front wheel (staying 26" rear - Liteville recommendation). Going with the new Lyrik RCT3 SA fork so 15mm axle.

I'm down to 3 options:

1: Rebuild my current wheel with new rim/spokes (i25 KOM/DT350) = £100 approx
2: Custom built (from Actionsports.de) DT240 on XM481 = £200
3: Factory built DT EX1501 (new version of 240 hub on EX471 rim) = £215

I've got £200 sat in PP from various sales of kit so no issue with affording either option.

Anyone ridden the newer 240 (spline) hubs? Is there a massive improvement from 350 to 240?
If I go with 2 or 3 I'll get the matching wheel once I sell the current pair.

I'm leaning towards the custom built 240/481 as I can get 20mm hub which will future-proof them a bit being adaptable.

Opinions please 🙂

Planet X are selling KOM i25 rims for £40 and you'll get spokes from Rose Bikes for around £30. If you can build your own wheels then I've just saved you £30 and that might make a difference to your decision.

Did think about Syntace but the rim price is too high. Heavier rims too. XM481 @ 35mm is 490g, W35 is 530g.

If you can build your own wheels
Can lace them but not skilled enough to tension/true properly.

The only notable difference when riding is the 36T ratchet in the 240, which you can add to the 350 later. Also worth pointing out that the EX1501 is not a 240 hub, incase you were going to match them later, you'd only be able to match with another EX1501 wheel

That would be the plan but doing more searching, it appears that the 20mm EX1501 is not available so think I'll go with the custom 240/481 combo.

Recently built myself a set of Easton Arc 27 rims on my old pro2 hubs. The extra width of the rims feels great on the butcher/purg combo. Light for the width as well. Not cheap though (£70)
