What is the going rate for a wheelbuilder to build a pair of wheels, I would buy nearly new rims and hubs and get the wheelbuilder to supply spokes and build them, thanks

Double butted spokes are going to be about £40+ for a pair of wheels, and I'd imagine a decent wheelbuilder will be charging £60+ a pair to build them, so I can't see you getting any change from £100

Do you not have a mate that can build wheels for beer? I do... ME! 🙂

My LBS charged £25 for build, I supplied rim hub and spokes, made a very good job of it, the mechanic has spannered for world and olympic champions.
Spokes, DT Supercomps will be around £75 for enough for a pair of wheels, Aerolites are about £240 for a pair of wheels.

I tend to charge £15 per wheel + spokes but that is not though a shop. I used to drop off and collect too if not to far out of my way. The last shop I worked at was £50 per wheel including db spokes, nothing fancy.

There must be someone local to you with good experience who you can get to build privately for you.

We charge £20 per wheel labour, spokes can be anything from 30p per spoke for Halo Plain Gauge (black or stainless) to 75p a spoke for Halo Double Butted (silver only) built with brass nipples or £15 extra for alloy (not that I'd recommend them), DT or ACi spokes start at £1.50 each.

Used hubs are fine but I would suggest new rims unless you can guarantee what usage the used ones have had.

Thanks guys, I live near Northampton and new to area so don't know anyone in the area. If anyone can recommend someone, and quite happy to use someone privately.
