There was a thread on here a while ago about building wheels which I can't find now, someone said a good a place to get well priced quality spokes from and others agreed - where was it again? Cheers

Rose Bikes for DT Swiss. Always seem to be the cheapest.

I always have a wee look on ebay, often there'll be bundles of new spokes or half boxes for sale, I ended up getting most of what I needed for my last wheel for way less than shop price then topped up with just a few shop-bought ones from JRA.

(I am not a "wheel builder", I just sometimes build wheels)

I follow people on bikes with straight pull spokes and collect the ones that fall out.

They're great if you like having black hands. Or silver spokes.

Depends what I'm building.

If it's a nice build I'll splash out on DT double butted from whoever is currently cheapest. Just shop around, and make sure to figure postage into the equation.

Otherwise for a normal everyday build (like the drum brake SS wheel I built for my klunker recently) you can't go wrong with SJS cycles own brand silver plain gauge spokes - 6 for £1.70, so about £10 per wheel.

DT comp from rosebikes, the price difference is enough to cover the postage most times, and there's always some cheap stuff to make it even more appealing!

Never had that problem with aci spokes from cycle basket or sdeals

Hm, mine were from Cyclebasket; by the time I'd laced my wheels I looked like I'd been down a coal mine.

I bought my last lot of DT Swiss spokes from Hewitt Cycles. Good range in stock and fair pricing.

Spa cycles usually have quality spokes at low price.

All depends what spokes I want.  Last purchase was Sapim Race which I think I got from Just Riding Along.
