New or 2nd hand wheel purchase happening soon and I am getting a bit confused. The wheels are for a Titus Fireline Ti 29er which has the old skool QR drop-outs on the back. An awful lot of the 2nd hand and also the new wheels I am seeing are for Boost, obviously this frame isn't Boost compatible so removes a chunk of options.
The wheels I was going to get were the HUNT trail 30mm wide which get great reviews and are a good price, guess what.............only available in Boost. They do a XC wheel that is 25mm and a non-boost option but I seem to be obsessing about needing 30mm to cover a multitude of riding options from xc to battering down rocky stuff.
Am I getting bogged down by the need for 30mm? Will the 25mm XC version do the job? Why does there seem to be a lack of QR rear options and a lot of bolt through rears? What else is there out there to consider in 29, non-boost, 15mm maxle front and QR drop out rear?
Well that went well 🙂
@johnjn2000 sorry I replied in my thread.
Somewhere on the hunt site I saw them say that if you want something custom then just ask. They do qr rear axle option so I'm sure they would build you a set with 29 rims. You have to wait longer and/or pay a touch more. They might do it as a 10mm bolted version for the added stiffness?
Ebay, pick up any 142x12 rear and check the hubs for adaptors, most do, if you go generic like DT Swiss style wheels, then you can get DT350 or 240 QR (12 to 5mm), hopes or shimano.
I'd definitely go down the adaptor route, that way you can look at 12mm thru axles, which are the most common out there just now for decent prices.
