Got given a friend bike with a view to fixing the bike for sale or splitting it.
(this really isn't an ad, as it ain't ready and another friend has first dibs, and who advertises the problems of a bike for sale...)
The rear wheel, of a Mavis Crossmax XL's wheelset, though pretty true laterally has 3mm of radial movement.
Would you get this fixed (I can't do it) or just put this in the for sale ad?
Would you viewed as a major issue or an inconvenience if you were looking to buy a wheelset?
is it on the weld /join that you get this?
I think a pneumatic tyre going over rough terrain will cope with 3mm of distortion personally. It is outside usual tolerances
looking at it on a jig, it's seemingly a 3mm high spot (4 spokes away from the weld).
Ok not massively out then, but would you buy it like this?
That's a fairly high-end wheel? Most will expect perfection, though it won't matter on 2" tyres...
Any shop with the spoke key should be able to have a go, though it may be the rim, or you can advertise "as is".
out of radial true of a flat spot from a big hit ....
first can be trued - although id be surprised if it wasnt flat spotted due to a big hit ...
3mm isnt alot
TBH I think it may have been the "small bike" shop that replaced a spoke/trued it for him last time (they gone bump since).
As he never done anything 'big' in his life and it's spent the last year on a turbo trainer, as he hasn't ridden off-road since his knee op (and never will now apparently)
Cheers my dears, gunna pop it down to a LBS and see how they want to sort it, and make a decision based on that (and their 2nd hand value).
