Considering the price diference between straight pull and 'j' type hubs attract on ebay. Is building a wheel with straight spokes simply a non starter?
Can't make the Spoke guides work with straight pull spokes, not can i find a supply of lengths avalible to buy.
I'm guessing it's not worth bothering with?

I wouldn't. Little advantage if any and a significant chance you won't be able to get replacements if you need them quickly.

Yeah, I'm stuck with 2 sets of straightpull hubs, a mistake I'll never make again. I've got my favourite LBS off on the hunt for spokes to fit a new rim, but since even finding replacements for the wheelset was hard work and expensive, not too optimistic. It's money and inconvenience and limited choice for no benefit at all.

Friends don't let friends buy straightpull.

Just built a set of straightpull wheels myself.

First wheel build, seemed to go OK.

DT Swiss spoke calculator works with straightpull.

Getting the right length can be more problematic, I ended up getting them from the USA. But now I have a box of 16 spare spokes in the correct length, so no need for any spares unless I totally total a wheel..

Asking LBS to find straightpull spokes is prob not the way to go.

I am happy with wheelset. Not 100% sure I'd go straightpull again, but ask me in a year.

That's what I'm guessing. People dong want them once they're off a wheel. Ill simply stick to j pull. Hard enough getting spokes without adding in straight pull spokes.

Utterly pointless apart from a triumph of marketing

cynic-al - I think that reaction is a bit knee-jerk. Who exactly is being forced to buy straightpull? Or who is really being heavily marketed into buying them? IMHO, no one. It is a minor difference in design that has some benefits (stiffer, stronger, lighter, easier to replace), albeit marginal. The only real downside IMHO is availability, which is a bit chicken-and-egg really. And it doesn't matter if you source spares with your new wheel.
