Looking to get a new set of DH wheels but unsure what to go for?
Like he look of Hope Pro3 AM4's straight pull spokes with mavic ex823's
Or
do I just stick to the J pull spokes with Pro2's and ex823's

Will straight pull be up to he job?

Experiences please.....

Happy new year all.....

Straight pull = spares nightmare.

You're gonna break spokes,it's a fact of life.Make them easy to source (as sods law dictates it will happen at the most inopportune moments).
J-bend for the win (on 721's.I was'nt aware they offered 823's tbh).

In theory straight pull are less prone to breakage. In reality spokes tend to break at the nipple more often than they do at the elbow.
Theoretically straight pull will be stiffer (minutely) as the spokes are slightly shorter and will have a better bracing angle (small but measurably).
In reality when you break one and you've forgotten to put your spare stash in your kit bag you're flubbered.

Straight pull = spares nightmare

And also totally depends on the quality of build, more so than straight or normal (J bend)

How heavy are you? Do you need 823?
Do you need a 12mm 150 rear hub? I have a set of pro twos on 823 which I don't use enough, I've ridden them a couple of times but may come to some agreement on price.

I always spec and build with j bend. As said above, they're easier to get in the meddle of nowhere and the benefits of straight pull are more theoretical than real world. Straight pull can be a pain to build with if the whole spoke spins rather than just the nipple.

However, I imagine it would be easier to replace a drive side spoke if it were straight as you might not need to remove the cassette.

I ride a Commencal Supreme V3 which dictates front and rear axle size 20mm and 12x150.
Nickhart- What you looking for price wise for wheels?
