Big Al is a legend
Steve McCaw in Livingston has a good reputation
Al @ Wheelcraft is default, there are others in Falkirk I think.
Big Al at Wheelcraft
Big Al it is.
Thanks chaps!
Be prepared for at least half a days stay when you go see Big Al.But his stories are great
If you're going to use big Al you need to know what you want. He builds great wheels but he doesn't understand different types of riding. If you go to him and say 'I want x laced to y with z' then you should get decent wheels. If you go to him and say 'I want some wheels for XC' then you'll spend ages talking and end up with a set of touring wheels.
Watch you don't fall over stuff too....the shop is 'busy'.
Was concerned when Al asked whether I wanted to go into his loft.....but us was only to observe the amount of rims he has up there. Well, rims, frames, etc.
I left with my new wheel (at a price I could not buy the parts for), a bag of coffee beans and a vintage Campagnolo wheel to be delivered to a guy who lived in roughly the same area as myself.
Take a 'fine piece' with you and you'll be welcomed....
