Roger Musson @ wheelpro is widely held to be one of the best, but he no longer builds as he says the stuff that Hope sell just needs the odd tweak. I've several sats built by the lads @ North West MTB (j2 of the m60), they build for Steve Peat and other DH racers and know a thing or two about building nice wheels

Ken Fosters Cycles in Chorlton did a good job of mine.

I destroyed the back one about a week after he'd built it. After a particularly heavy landing, my considerable bulk managed to split a Mavic rim in 2 places. The wheel stayed together though. Could have been nasty

All the above are good recs. A friend, based in Warrington, runs a small wheelbuilding business.

Another vote for Penketh Cycles. Stu is a thoroughly decent chap and the wheels he builds are excellent.
