I just found a set of DT240 hubs in the garage 😆 Clearly I have reached Peak Hoarder, I had no idea I had these. And the fix is to buy more things, so, I was thinking about sticking some b+ rims on it and seeing if that works in my remedy and my horrible no-name chinese hardtail.
Don't want to spend a huge amount of money really but at the same time I don't like to skimp on wheels... And I suppose there's a decent chance i end up just selling them fairly quickly too so I want to keep an eye on that, don't want to go with anything too weird or harder to sell.
I think quite likely it'll be a 2.8 max rear and it's going into Pikes at the front so not too generous there either. And, proper tyres with knobbles.
Soooooo. From my own googling, and basic wide-rim fanboyism and prejudice against wide tyres on narrow rims, I figure I probably want at the very least 30mm inside but preferrably 35mm or more inside width rim. Is that reasonable? And, got to be tubeless ready of course.
I've ended up with a shortlist that looks like this
Scrapers: expensive, £90, not light
XM551- £72 each, good weight, weird nipples
Easton Arc 40s- pretty scarce, £90 (there's the 35 too)
Dually- too expensive
WTB i35 Asym- £53.99.
(the WTB is basically making me discount all the 30mm rims, that might be rash)
But quite likely I'm overlooking something... The i35 is the narrowest on that list but it's a good weight and almost half the price of the scrapers and eastons. So atm it's kind of coming down to one of those two.
TELL ME WHAT TO THINK!
DB-x50, ~£30 each from Ridewill.it
Or Halo do Vapour 35mm and 50mm rims for about £50
Oooh, good options, cheers!
I was happy with how the the vapour 35s built up. Was going to try the 50's for my longitude till I worked out I didn't have time to build them (and the rumpus wheels where cheap).
I just found a set of DT240 hubs in the garage
[minor rant]They the DT240 hubs you tell everyone are so cheap if you buy them as part of a set of 26" wheels but they aren't because some **** has bought em all, way more than he needs, in fact he has too many to keep track of where he put them all?[/minor rant] 🙂
Cheap rear one on eBay at the moment.
@Rubber, worse than that, I found the ebay invoice in the bag- impulse bought at £60 BIN because they're missing the ratchets. Then I forgot about them and THEN I bought a set of EX1750s for the hubs, to go in the trailfox. Capitalism has ruined me.
(I basically built new wheels for the fatbike entirely because of impulse buying some bigride hubs for it...)
Tick. If you get the ones from Italy don't mistakenly get the wrong one 👿
Don't discount the 551 for nipples. It comes with washers, you can use any nipple.
