Sorry for the probably daft question, but i don't know this type of crank at all.
I'm debating a quick fix on my lads bike of swapping the crank for a 1X as we had an issue in the race where it wouldn't shift out of the bottom ring, so he was spinning out. It seems to be a problem with the Gripshift mechanism, so I can either fit a new trigger shifter, (which amazingly i don't have in the spares box) or i can fit some 1X cranks and he'll just use the middle ring.
On the WWW i'm seeing
Prowheel, 42x34x24T, 140mm with Chainguard and Square BB
But i can't say 100% if his bike isn't an older model so just wanted to confirm with you guys please.
It's a 140mm crank with 24, 34 and 42t chainrings with a chainguard that mounts on a square taper bottom bracket.
Might help if I put the pics to clarify

This is what I was thinking of swapping it with
Isn't a 40t chainring going to be way too big?
Could you not just remove the unneeded rings from the existing crack to go 1x?
I bought suntour 152 mm triple cranks from Amazon and replaced the rings with a superstar narrow wide ring and bash. Also require square taper bb.
Edit: your current cranks are not square taper, as far as I can see....
Tom,
Can't remove, they're pop rivet type installed rather than bolt and cap as per the big boys cranks we have

What makes you think that, and what interface do you think they are? Looks a lot like ST to me.
I tend to agree that 40t is going to be way too big, but just in case you were still going for that, then https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/chainsets/40-alloy-cotterless-crankset-with-40t-steel-18-inch-chainwheel-inc-guard-140-mm-cranks/ is very similar to what you're looking at, but with alu cranks rather than steel, so a lot lighter. I note that neither of those options have replaceable chainrings, so you won't be able to swap it out. Personally I'd probably go for TomB's suggestion of a cheap triple with removable rings.

Yes they are.
You guys aware of a 140ST them, ideally about a 32/34t
Suntour or Thorn 152mm with a 30t n/w would be my recommendation. We've got the thorn and it's fine, but the suntour is a bit cheaper.
Longer cranks then. Hmmm
The 150mm length comes from islabike creigs.
If you want shorter, then there's still options:
edit - not that good (the 140's I found). Go with one that you can fit a n/w to like the stronglight above.
