I have a pair of Rockshox Revelation World Cup forks sat here that I want to use, but upon fitting the crown race I've notice that there is a space below it but from looking at pics online it appears there should be a spacer of some kind....anyone enlighten me what its called and where I can get one from please: (Circled in red)[img] [/img]

Is that not the crown race? May just need to knock it down a bit more.

Sadly not, they are not my forks but every picture of full carbon steerer and crown show this little spacer.....it stops the crown race going down too far but 100% isn't the crown race as the crown race slips down so far then stops leaving a 4/5mm gap between itself and the fork crown

Have a look at page 55...

Not listed as a separate part, just something that's part of the uppers if you have a tapered steerer. Is yours tapered?

Yes they are tapered but bought the forks 2nd hand, guy I bought them off says he knows nothing about it as his shop removed his forks before sale.

I'd rather not be buying a new set of uppers to rectify this.

May be worth giving someone like Loco Tuning a call. He pops up on here now and again and is always very knowledgable when it comes to forks...

How exactly has the crown race been fitted?

I wonder if someone got confused/over enthusiastic when using the crown race remover and took it off.

Does it look like it was bonded on? If it was just a loose spacer it would tend to allow the race to turn wouldn't it?

That would be my guess. Bonded on (and hence not considered a separate part in the manuals) and somehow pulled off when removing the crown race.

as above, talk to Loco or one of the other fork service/repairs places.

Hopefully it's not a new CSU, though 🙁

Nothing a couple of mm alloy washer would sort out...

Fingers crossed but yes failing the ability to get the original part, I'm sure someone could turn that up for me. See if I can get original black first as a silver slither below headset would look slightly unsightly.....unless I get a silver headset

When you say 'the crown race slips down so far then stops leaving a 4/5mm gap between itself and the fork crown' are you just slipping it down by hand?
If so, then you need to know that the crown race has to be forced into place and the 4/5mm gap sounds about right for how far it goes by hand.
Watch this video (allowing for the fact that the guy keeps getting his arm in the way ;))

Thanks Belugabob but yes I know how to fit a crown race.

I also now know I have a part missing, its a spacer cap that provides the flat for the crown race to sit flush against.

Finding this part may be tricky!

Measure the steerer diameter - surely where it's 44mm is where the crown race is meant to sit?

No worries almightydutch - just thought I'd mention it, because nobody else had.
Do find it strange that the crown can't be relied upon to be flat enough for the crown race to sit against - after all, any spacer cap has to sit against the crown, too, and none of the forks that I've fitted have used a spacer.
Every day is a learning experience, though, and I've never fitted a fork with a carbon crown and/or steerer.

I love when folk don't bother reading the thread.

Anyway, definitely one to speak to Fishers then TF/Loco/J-Tech/etc about. Maybe add in a speculative email to Sram

My mistake, Legend (and you are one) - I was focussing too much on the phrase 'slips down'
Will pay more attention in future 😉
