Currently hunting for a kitchen (oh the joy!).

We can find the full custom XTR handmade jobs. We can find the mass produced Alivio jobs.

But what we want is an XT level kitchen. Nice quality, not outrageously expensive with solid cabinets and wooden doors.

Any recommendations? We are in Surrey in case anybody knows any decent independents but equally happy with national chains.

Thanks!

Can't help, but love the analogy! I'm pinching that for future advice requests 🙂

I bought a computer from a guy that did up houses, and sold computers, and he would buy ikea kitchens as the carcasses were solid and then replace the doors from one of the companies that sells replacement doors of the right size.

After wanting but not affording a Hacker german kitchen, we went with a Kulmann Kitchen with aqua blue glass splash backs Its is very very nice, and about 25% cheaper.

I also recommend factoring in a Hot Tap into the budget and awesome trinket.

Howdens, Benchmarx etc are all a nightmare to get a true quote from. DIY sell at a flat rate, you'll need a fitter, they come pre assembled. The units themselves are all the same from these companies.

IKEA.

Just done a 10'x10' utility room, and so easy that I've my Mums kitchen to do now, and when we do ours next year it'll also be an ikea one.

Worked out what we wanted, sat with designer in store and they knew which bits we needed to achieve what we wanted. All turned up in one delivery and as long as you follow th instructions, logically goes together.

+1 for diy kitchens, fit it yourself or get a fitter, quality cabinets and good customer service.

Also have IKEA and have a nice kitchen that has lasted well so far but hardly the XT of kitchens is it?

Saying that, the much more expensive solid wood handmade units (more XTR) we had previously were more hassle due to wood expansion, cats able to scratch them, staining etc,.

A nice advantage with IKEA is that the doors/fronts (in fact all the parts) are all readily available if you ever need to replace.

I am an architect, and can't believe the money people willingly pay for dressed up chipboard boxes. If it were me I would get on Gumtree and find old potting benches/ tables/ shelves etc and pay a joiner to put some new surfaces on/ spruce them up. You can do a lot yourself. And nothing 'fitted' either, just means you are stuck with it. Mix and match always looks a zillion times better than the 'everything must match look'. But that's just me.

Isn't that more of a garden shed interior?

I'm all for shabby chiq, but perhaps not in a modern open plan kitchen.

I've had a couple of Howdens kitchens. Seem okay. Probably a bit more LX than XT.

Paint is your friend.... it makes everything match and look more 'modern'. However this room is the realm of the woman and that in itself brings a whole load of additional issues.

Sheraton Kitchens are pretty good. Mine's standing up to wear and tear well. Good solid carcasses and no droopy drawers or cupboards after 5 years.

I work for an xtr kitchen company, and we also sell German kitchens as our less expensive range. Recommend the Ballerina kitchens

What he means is that he doesn't cook his own dinner. 😉
