What's the trick with Ard Rock tickets?

So Ard Rock 2024 tickets go on sale on the 17th November.
For the last 4 years my group have tried to get tickets for the Saturday race and failed.

It was my turn to buy tickets for the 2023 race and I hit 'checkout' 31 seconds after the page went live (6.30am) and it was already sold out.

Surely this is madness? Am I missing something?!
Does anyone know if they hold tickets back for later in the hour/day/week/year?
Or perhaps do people get timed out after 10 minutes and their tickets go back into the pot?

PS, kudos to anyone else that survived the 7 stages on Sunday in 2023. That was a long pedal in some tricky conditions!

I really enjoy 'Ardrock, but TBH for the past few years I've given up and had a GREAT time riding in the Peaks/lakes/Morzine etc with mats.. i appreciate it's a wholly different 'idea', but like you we found teh stress of getting tickets too much!

The frustration of (no offence) "bobby bimblers" getting saturday race tickets then posting all over the net "i'm jsut going to take it easy, maybe miss a fwe stages" was annoying! It seems everyone goes for Saturday race tickets, regardless of whether they want to race or bimple or even turn up...

Had tickets the last 2 years.

3 of us go online and keep hitting refresh until we get through, the second they go live.

then communicate via txt once someone has secured tickets.

does sound like a bit of a lottery tho.

we aren’t doing it next year. Might do the naughty Northumbrian instead. Assuming we don’t sort out our own version of the stone king rally, which is the current plan!

Probably because they want to enjoy the Saturday night beer / music.
Not saying it's right or wrong but I strongly suspect that's the reason.

Our assumption was basically the same, plus people want the 'kudos' of doing the same race as the pro's. Despite it being a casual race that means nothing.
Think we're going to try for either Friday or Saturday race this year. Only ever raced on a Sunday and it'd be nice to enjoy a few extra beers on the Sat night!

On sale at 7pm this year instead of the usual 6am

I always aim for the Sunday as I'm not interested in competing

I’d be great if they offered one of the days for
- 7 stages
- fun riding
- course in best nick
- opportunity to spectate the Saturday racers
- Saturday night entertainment
- nowt to do on Sunday but pack up and go home…

I’ve also heard of people doing this to get Glastonbury tickets.

Only ever done once back in 2017 (turned up on sunday, rode and went home) , would love to do it again though as the ride itself looks great, but costs too much and the 'big event' vibe sends my anxiety into overdrive TBH.

That'd be great wouldn't it. It'd probably have a much more relaxed vibe too as there'd be far less people on course. Perhaps there'd be time to demo bikes over the weekend and ebikes too if you're feeling tired and want easy laps of the demo loop. The only problem this year was they'd moved the dates forward a week so my teacher friend who'd I'd intended to do it with had to be in work on the Friday. It looks like it's going to be the same this year too.

Am I missing the in joke and pointing out the obvious? That's the Epic, on Friday, all stages. It was the best course conditions with the driest weather this year. I might do it 2024 instead of the Sport, I did the Sprint then the Sport in 2023 (my lad was too young for Sprint) and the course was minging and churned up by Sunday.

I meant Sport.

Also I wanted to add I totally get why folk enter the Enduro instead of the other categories, it's not just the kudos, the feeling you have done the event properly, it's the best value as it has the most practice/stages for about the same cost as all the other categories. Ard Rock is about getting the most riders down the stages as possible, it has long stages and they are setting folk off in 20 second gaps. You are going to catch or be caught at some point. The numbers per category means there's no practical way to grid. If you want an event where you can maximise your riding potential, this isn't it. Some pretty fast riders who don't race much think it's their only chance to prove themselves so it's also a uniquely stressful event!

I don't know what the secret is but I managed to get a ticket for the full Enduro in '14, '15, '16, '17 and '18.

It got bigger and more expensive each year and I'm not that bothered about entering again.

I'm now booked in with a mate for the Friday. Hopefully the weather for the weekend will be better than the last couple of years.

Only the Enduro is sold out at the moment and even those keep coming back every few minutes. Womens only wave for Intro and Sport is new.

Went straight for the Sunday sport as always, no problem 👌

Said last year that "the weather can't be as bad as last year!" I was wrong then, but I definitely can't be wrong this time...... Surely!?

What’s the deal with the camping I am riding Friday I booked camping for Thursday Friday - Saturday. 1 ticket I am bringing my partner and 1 year old. I assume I don’t need extra tickets for them?

it doesn’t really say anywhere

Wait patiently until closer to the event when people inevitably bottle it and sell theirs.
