I finally pulled the trigger on a new Ribble CGR AL with all the fixings... on December 9. I was aware they had a back order as the frames weren’t in stock yet, but...

Now January 23, bike still not here, shoddy comms from Ribble with no definitive date of build or delivery. They keep promising its being built but to no avail. To top it all off they took my money in full on December 9... which alone strikes me as odd if they knew it would be backed up.

So, is this a normal wait time? Anyone have any similar wait times, issues or war stories from online bike orders?

4 month's. I paid up front for a Scott full suspension from the local bike shop. I didn't know he'd been blacklisted by all the major suppliers. So I wait & wait. I got fed up & went to get my money back. The shop owner has also scammed his own dad out of 250.000 quid & was up to his neck in debt. I ended up with a " Barracuda big momma downhill bike" he had in the window. It was so bad that the back tyre hit the Frame under full compression. That put me off mtbing for a while after the bike ditched me a few times because of the awful design.😡

I ordered one from canyon and after 4 months I cancelled it! Absolutely dreadful deal with. I pre ordered a 29er YT Capra when they announced them and if turned up half a week early, I did have to wait for 2-3 months though.

That happened to me when I bought my Ribble CGR. They blamed the delay on lack of brake systems coming from the wholesaler. Took about 6 weeks in total.

On One Scandal 29er. They never managed to provide the bike I ordered despite several delays and lies.

Maybe I should add that a kickstarter is always a bit of a punt but the Puffin's gestation was particularly drawn out.

not a new bike, but a Orange sub zero that I snapped.
it went back for repair, and rather than give me a new frame, they decided to patch the frame up.
it took about 4 months in total.

shocking service, shocking company to deal with, hence my hate of all thing form Orange mountain bikes.

Less than 2 weeks for 2 different Cotics
One was just over a week simply because they used to do a weekly shipment to the German dealer.
The other was just over a week cos it was waiting for the boat to arrive at Felixstowe.

All other bikes have been in stock and sent via normal online ordering and delivery turn arounds, or I've gone in to the shop and said "Can I have that one, please?", and had to wait maximum until the next working day to pick it up cos the certified mechanic has to do the formal pre-sale inspection.

Ribble was the longest wait for me (I’d guess at about five weeks). Doesn’t sound like much has changes with their updates or contact with customers in the last thirteen years or so but the frame, forks, & headset are still going strong as a commuting/training (ok commuting) bike so no complaints

So, what they said they would do? Doesn’t excuse the time, but still...

Not a bike, but I ordered some brakes in September, they would be here in March, if I hadn’t changed my order in Jan to ones that will hopefully be here in April, but no guarantees.

Bike wise, I ordered a Nomad 3 the day it was released (1/4) and was mid May when it arrived. Worth it.

Mrs Kilo waited iirc eight months for a Roberts road bike to be built, to be fair it was steel and hand made to measure but the wait for the forks they specc’ed went on for ages. In the end they chucked some carbon ones on just to finish the job. In fact all three of the bikes we had from them took an age.

For those of you waiting months for a new bike, are you not concerned that standards will have changed and your "New" bike will be obsolete by the time it get's delivered?*

*Only semi-tongue in cheek...

8 months tomorrow, and counting....

But to be fair it's a special thing of beauty, I was told it would be slow, and the builders have been good at communicating so I am not stressing

Stooge Mk1; pre-ordered and took about 3 months
Stooge Mk4; pre-ordered and due in 5 months

What artisan creations are you guys ordering that are taking 8+ months?!

Thanks all.

Got to say, it’s nuts that everyone here who’ve dealt with Ribble have had to wait far too long. Disappointing that they’ve not tried to improve that side of their business.

The fact they’ve taken my money already seems odd and a bit of a worry, in the sense of are they about to go under and are grabbing cash. Hopefully that’s just the cynic in me (which seems to come out a lot these days).

It seems the CGR is either in high demand or they messed up by marketing the sh*t out of it before they could supply.

Something that takes more than 8 months to save up/pay for, IME. (Worth it though 😉 )

I suspect it's a bit of both of these.
PM sent!

Can't get quote to work......

Waiting months for a new bike and changing standards?

Sometimes it works in your favour. 12 speed XTR wasn't a thing when I ordered mine, now that's what it's having

Not really as its a 2019 model year with the latest and greatest (non di2) standards - hence why its taken its time to come.

About 5 months for a Canyon, but to be fair, that was the lead time they quoted when ordering as it was a new model and I was prepared to wait - 6 years ago and I've only just retired it, so I got my moneys' worth 🙂

18 months for my custom ti road bike. Had it 3.5 years now and still looks as amazing as the day it arrived, even after the abuse I've given it.

My RoOberts DogsBolx was built in less than six weeks. However, the one-off Ti cross bike I ordered from On One at the turn of the century took over six months to arrive. I also received the wrong frame first when the order first turned up. The problem was in the time I was waiting my employer moved locations meaning it was now too far for me to commute by bicycle - the reason for the Ti purchase. Bugger.

A few months, but the frame builder did have to make it - custom built, custom paint job. Columbus SLX tubed road bike - had it made about 30 years ago. Still got it.

Generally no more than a week. I'm far to impatient to order something with a lomg lead time, if it's not in stock and ready to go I'll get something else, it's just a bike in the end. Waited a few weeks for a custom steel road frame, but the builder got started as soon as I gave him my specs and I got weekly picture updates so I always knew what was going on 👍

4 months for my Rallon, which was ordered almost exactly a yaer ago. it got a bit frustrating waiting for it when it got near but it did arrive at near enough the date i was told when ordering, and was well worth the wait.

2 months with Spa cycles, only to find out accidentally from twitter that the shipment from manufacturer I was patiently waiting on had been and gone with none of my size being in it.

the cancellation process was suspiciously smooth.

Hi Jon
Very sorry about the delay with your build, we have unfortunately oversold the CGR AL framesets.
Stock is being air freighted on the 28th January so your build will be completed towards the end of next week.
Apologies again for this delay.

Best Regards

That's the latest from Ribble, after I got a build confirmation on the 21st that my bike was being built. This cat and mouse game is getting tiresome. At least they've admitted they oversold the new frames.

4 months for my Mondraker Vantage frame. Ordered it pretty much as soon as I saw a pic of it. The shop was great. Combination of Mondraker and Silverfish being slow

Ordered my CGR a few days before you, kind of reluctantly as I didn’t want to wait but couldn’t find anything else that did C2W and this spec. After a bit of chasing my build date was the 21st same as you, though I’ve only been delayed a couple days and mine was supposedly dispatched today, expecting it tomorrow! Best of look getting yours hopefully they are worth the wait!

My ribble was great, ordered on the sunday, delivered the following wednesday, chiltern 100 on the saturday (was a bit worried that it wouldn't work for me but i did do the bikefit thing in their Birmingham store).
My Orbea rallon on the other was three months with each week it being promised the following week. I think that was mainly down to the shop not really knowing what they were up to.

About a year for a Surly Disc Trucker, whilst they were having supply/far eastern agent issues.
At the time there was nothing else that fitted my requirements, but it was bloody annoying.

Would I do it again?
Depends.

If I there was something else that suited me, not a chance.
If not, I'd rather wait than compromise.
