Just found a broken spoke and a wobbly rim on my rear wheel. Must have been the dirt eating episode on Sunday!
It's a budget wheelset, wtb speeddisc on wtb hub. Roughly what's it gonna cost to put a new spoke in and true the wheel?
I think I had a spoke replaced for £12. It was only a teeny bit out of true though and it was my fairly regular LBS - not sure if that was the normal rate, or a slight discount as I am often popping in and out for odds and sods.....
i just got both my wheel tensioned and trued, spoke replaced on the front and front bearings done, £40. happy enough with that, bike feels alot better now!
A spoke will be about 65p and a spoke key about £4.
Tape a pen to your frame to use as guide and take your time.
voodoo wizardry that caper!:DA spoke will be about 65p and a spoke key about £4.

Don't have the time, but it is something I'm looking to be able to do on my own in the future.
I'll have to go into LBS early on Friday morning and hopefully I can pick it up on Saturday so I can ride on Sunday.
£10 or so, its not voodoo, just fit the new spoke making sure it goes over/under the right spokes, keep turning the nipple untill the rim is aproximately straight. If it wont go perfectly straight get an elastic band and a pen, position it on your chainstay so that it just contacts the rim at its most buckled (make sure your looking at the buckle not the other 90% of the rim) then loosen/tighten the pair of spokes at its center 1/4 turn untill its straight. If you run out of tension in a spoke, go round the whole rim and add 1/4 turn to each spoke.
Repeat untill the wheel is straight.
Use the same method to check for vertical movement in the rim, but tighten/loosen both the spokes to correct high spots or flat spots (flat spots are almsot impossible to fix as usualy the rim is deformed not a result of spoke tension).
De-stress the spokes by restign the axle on a block of wood and applying your bodyweight accross opposite pairs of spokes so you can feel the wheel flex as the spokes on the far side slacken.
Repeatt he whole proces untill the wheel is as straight as you deem nececary (1mm is usualy fine, don't wory about the rim where the valve hole is or where the join is (usualy opposite), it'll walywas be slightly wobbly here.
Spoke could have snapped when leant up against something in the garage; it's happened to me at least twice. simple job of replacing the spoke and tensioning it up. You'll need a cassette removal tool and a spoke key. Probably cost £15 for the repair and take 30 minutes or so. Can't see a bike shop doing that for less than £20 to be honest.
depend where you take it
Specialised it's £15 for a true
Bloke in tiny workshop on the way to work £5 as long as i provide the spoke
Most of the time i do it myself for only one spoke it's not a hard job
thisisnotaspoon
i could do that, but i'll never get it to the standard of my bike shop with out a lot of time spent learning how to do it, and i don't really think a bike shop charges much for the job so..

It'll be quicker to do it yourself unless you live next door to the LBS.
Gard help us!
On a plus side, you now have a fun filled evening of tweaking nipples..... 😆 sorry 😳
LBS is about 200 yards away.
seanoc, i'm sure it snapped when i hit the dirt thinking I could jump like the kids...i can't!
I'll throw business the way of my LBS, they always look pee'd off when i go in and only ever buy bolts!
finners...where's the photaes?
In my place it would be 11 quid if you took the disc and cassette off first, or 17 quid if we had to take them off.
