As per title, I've got a couple of months before my sons 14th birthday. He isn't very tall (but may shoot up), currently around 5ft 1in.
I've not got the earth to spend, hoping for a good second hand bargain on eBay but would consider new if everything stacked up right. It would be for trail riding of a fairly gentle nature.
I looked at BTwin but they seemed really heavy. I've talked him out of a full sus as I think they would be too heavy at my price range. Others that cropped up were the Calibre Two.Two and some of the entry level specialized stuff.
I'd like to have discs on there as for me part of the enjoyment as a kid was saving up and upgrading as I went, so if he already has disc mounts and hubs thats one upgrade path to be enjoyed. Of course he may ride it twice and decide XBOX is better...
Any suggestions, advice or help gratefully received. I realise this is a question that crops up a lot and I've based some of my thoughts on what I have researched on here first. Thank you
Calibre bikes Line 10?

He will love it.
If 14 year olds around here are anything to go by a bike with "carrera" written on it because "they're sick" apparently
Looks like a good call, thanks.
Pinnacle?
I bought my boy a Calibre Saw, which is currently £250. It's a touch on the heavy side, but then it's only £250. He seems happy with it so far.
I think I want light weight over equipment; equipment can be upgraded, hard to reduce weight and at his size it will be cruicial to get something he can throw around.
That Saw looks quite good actually; amazed that its heavy from the look of the spec.
