I normally convert gmaps to gpx on gpsvisualizer.com then convert the gpx to tcx on Team Bike Olympo's converter. I put the tcx file in courses and on the garmin that results in my route beingu drawn in over the map. How do I get the proper turn by turn navigation file? Garmin really confuses me sometimes.

What garmin model are you using?

I dont know anyone who has conveted a map to turn by turn instructions. You need to download garmin maps to one of the top garmin models which displays the maps.

I use the course function as well on my edge 500. This works pretty well. You can just use the garmin connect website to transfer the course to your gamin rather than converting files a couple of times.

I use ridewithgps.com to give turn by turn navigation on Garmin 500 on road routes.

I plan the route on bike route toaster.
Then I click 'send to garmin'.
Then I unplug the Garmin, turn it on and follow the turn by turn directions.

All on an Edge 800 btw

I plan my routes on gpsies.com, click send to Garmin then follow the turn by turn directions on my Edge Touring.
