Mini PP is 11yrs old an currently on a 24inch B'Twin bike that I got very cheap and got back to working condition with minimal spends.
I would have loved to have gotten him a Carrera Blast 2nd hand but couldn't afford it at the time.
So, now he's getting bigger and is on the verge of needing a small framed 26 inch wheel bike.
I'm scouring the Facebook marketplace looking for a bargain and see the blue and green Carrera Blasts come up for £100-150 - the blue and yellow one wit disc brakes.
But, what's the 26 inch equivalent of this bike? I'm looking at max budget around £150 (2nd hand obviously) as he's only just starting out and at blue trail level at most at the moment. Want to get him something that isn't going to be so heavy it puts him off and preferably with disc brakes (cable OK) so it looks like a proper mountain bike. I also want him to be able to use it as an everyday bike for school/going to the park etc so don't want to spend too much and be overly precious about it.

We went to Leeds urban bike park a couple of weeks agi - great place and he loved it - but I couldn't believe the number of similar age kids riding around on over £1k's worth of full suss gnar machines!
For context, I ride a Voodoo Bizango and happy riding reds which I'd like to eventually get him to be able to join me on.

Any number of xs 26" bikes would fit the bill, there was a Giant on here for that money for a while. Check Gumtree and such, there is usually something similar (just watch out for knackered heaps that have been left to rot and bodged to death).

I went with a 13" Trek and used the brakes, drivetrain, forks, etc, off the Blast build. I paid £168.

Just need to get round to selling the Blast frame/cranks and wheelset!

Thanks all. That Nzumbi looks perfect - seem to be a few around for about £250 so might need to up the budget a little to get there.
My general plan is keeping an eye on Facebook/gumtree etc with no rush to find the right one.

I picked up an xs trek marlin off here a few weeks ago, it's 27.5 but swapped the forks and wheels for 26" ones I had in the garage. Swapped over drivetrain from her blast as well and it's perfect for my 10 year old daughter.

Scour ebay for xs 26" or 27.5" if you don't mind a bit of fettling. You probably won;t actually need to swap forks over, just change the wheels, then put the 27.5 ones back on as they grow.

Basically any old 26" wheel bike in a really small frame will do, and an old one might come with some pretty good kit on it.Spesh rockhoopers are good and came in a 13" frame so see if theres any of them around.

Stealth add for anyone looking for 24" wheel stuff.......I've got a carrera blast frame and 24" wheels that I need to sell on. Sunn singletrack rims on superstar rear hub and shimano front with racing ralph tyres.

Keep a look out for Genesis Core 26s. Lovely little frame with disc mounts.
