That grease gun in the Hope hub bearing video is neat. Looks like it’s neither messy nor hard to fill. I’ve got the Mobil cartridge grease they mention and a Dualco gun from ID (same as the Pace and the working part of the old WTB grease-guard gun), but although that Dualco gun’s small and practical when its working, its a pain to fill from a cartridge without making a right mess and it gets cavitation issues too IMO.
Anyone know what the Hope grease “syringe” is please?
That’s a tidy bit of kit. I am getting google failure as I don’t know what it’s called.

Thanks

It's a syringe gun. How much money do you want to spend?
Hi Davesport,
Thanks
What do they cost? I've seen vetinary syringes with metal triggers for 10-20 on alibaba but I guess they atent quite right - Hopes is probably designed for grease. It looks like plastic so I wasnt expecting it to be real costly? Are they?
Do you know that specific model
Thanks
Wow
Found it (hope gave me the makers name)
$238

EFD 7023141 Dispensing Gun, 55cc Syringe Barrel Size
That’s spendy
Ideally then something easy to fill and accurate nozzle would be great.
The Dualco I have (for all it’s shortcomings) is starting to look like bargain kit!
There's a few different 55cc sryingle barrel guns available-
> £50-56 HERE
> 50 Euros HERE
> 32 euros HERE - this could work
> 35cc for £26 HERE
> And another HERE
I use one of these:

Does the same job, easy to re-fill from a grease gun.
Mobil Grease XHP222 is available from the usual scumbags in cartridges.
Hi Mudfish. Sorry, not been on here for a day. You've found what you're looking for obviously. Seems like a ton of money for a grease applicator.
Aye I also use a Dualco grease gun and use Mobil XHP222 grease in the large cartridges.
Once you remove the ring pull from the grease cartridge, I made a 10mm thick plastic disc to match the ID of the grease cartridge and put a 20mm hole in the middle of it.
Press the disc in to the top of the grease cartridge, then with the empty grease gun pot upside down, just press it against the plastic disc, grease comes up thru the hole and fills the gun !!
I then just chop off the top of the grease cartridge and it's ready for the next time.
Thanks for tne tips.
Woodentop, yes good idea, grease actually used to come like that back in the 70's when I worked in a garage.
Cokie, good finds, but those are a little diferent being a kind of handle for a medical syringe by the look of it, right? That may work but its not what Hope use (although theirs is WAY costly so off the list)
Alexandersmith, yes, good one, does that use a medical syringe or its got its own cylinder? Can you suck the grease in? I see tenres no "knob" on the end of the retracting slider, sucking in the grease is what I was after, less mess filling with the pallete knife! And less bubbles /cavitation issues.
Davesport, what would your suggestion have been please?
Thanks
If its a syringe do you actually need a gun? Why not just use the syringe? If you're a pro mechanic and using it all day every day then a gun is a nice thing to have and financially justifyable, but for the odd use every now and against just use the syringe? Seems a bit of a pointless purchase to me.

if it’s a syringe attached to a "gun" I agree, why not.
my needs (ideally)
easy fill
easy placement
reduced cavitation which pump guns all seem to get)
Hope's gun was lovely with a big plunger tat looks like to could used to suck in grease, but $288, no way!
I'm gonna test a syringe
have a good weekend

I'll let you know how I get on using one of these aa a "grease placement device"
