Sorry if this is the wrong spot for this post, but I need some advice re: selling my custom 2013 Orbea Alma Hydro 29er bike or frame. The market has changed so much in the last 5 years and I haven't kept up, so I don't really have a good sense for what the frame or entire bike would be worth.

The frame is 16 inch (Orbea size small). Front wheel is stans laced to sram x9 hub. Rear is a Easton Haven. Race Face bottom bracket and chainring. 165 mm race face evolve cranks. Easton post and stem. Bontrager bars. BB7 mech brakes. sram 9 speed x9 rear shifter and x7 rear mech. Bonty X3 2.3 tubeless tires. Rock Shock Recon Gold fork.

Everything is in very good condition. The frame has a few scratches from one of the brake levers (since replaced)

Any advice for what would be a reasonable price for the frame and/or complete bike would be appreciated as well as if I am better off selling it whole or parting it out.

Again, if this is in the wrong forum, please let me know. Thanks.

Morning, no this is the correct forum for a stealth ad. 🙂

Have no idea what it might be worth, but it's always less than you think...£300

Well, seeing as I am in the US and not inclined to ship oversees, this is more of an "for informational purposes" post rather than a "stealth ad."

300 pounds equals approx $400 USD---U serious? Frame alone was $650

Is it Carbon or Alu Frame?

Basic formula for a whole bike is 50% of what it cost new, plus or minus 10% for condition and upgrades. I think...

Seeing as you're in the US and this is largely a UK cycling forum it might be difficult for us to comment on the US second hand market. Over here I'd say £250 - £300 was about right.

What’s your point caller?

Fact is, it’s not worth that much. Checking local classifieds shows I could pick up one a year younger than yours with hydraulic brakes for £350. And that’s before any negotiation

There’s also a specialized pitch 29er on there for £295.

I would agree with a similar valuation.

I work off the bikes price halving every year of ownership for first few years. Then you hit a flat spot where it's a working bike and that has value - not specific gears or forks etc. This is affected by how much use the bike has, so how likely bits like forks and chainring so are worn out.

I just sold a 26" Sanderson with fox f120's, hope hubs, full XT and SLX etc for £250.
I'm selling a 26" Orange Five with Marzicchi's, SLX everything, new wheels for £550 at moment.
I just bought Radon Slide, pike, latest fox rear shock, full XT, dropper spare wheels, rotors and mudguards in amazing condition for £925...

Bikes are not an investment.

Bb7s and 9 speed. I'd say 250 was bang on.

Recon gold are OK forks. I have them too but they were cheap new and it's a 5 year old bike.

Well 2018 version 1299 dollars.

Half that 650

5 years old and 9 speed so drop another 250 so 400 dollars.

Stick on Craigslist / eBay and see what you get. It's only worth what someone will pay for it.

Good luck with the sale

Presumably five year old mechs and wheels, and nine speed....old fashioned geometry, is it straight steerer or tapered?

I'd say £200, but ultimately you may get lucky and get more

Before anyone says, nothing wrong with old fashioned geometry just saying it's not a frame that I can see being particularly sought after.

Best way to find out what it's worth is to put it on ebay with a 99p starting point and no reserve . I would be surprised if it fetched £250 or the dollar equivalent . Difficult to value a bike bought in the USA because prices are not the same as in the UK and we don't know what the second hand bike market is like over there and you haven't said what the frame is made of .
