As the title says really. Like the geometry on the Unit but looking for something lighter, aluminium is fine, carbon too but theres lack of SS carbon frames out there.

Budgets about £1200

I have also been looking for something similar. Kona Unit, Stooge 29er, Surly KM and Genesis Tarn. A rigid 29er/27.5 plus bike. The Stooge seems very heavy, the Genesis Tarn also by all accounts heavy, Kona no frame only and the Surly expensive and has track ends. I liked the look of the Pinnacle Ramin 1 or 3 plus, good geo and good weight, but no frame only deals and now no longer available in my size. I think new Pinnacle range out in November?

I'm liking the Giant but cant find any deals on whole bikes or frame only in a small. I did think about the Pinnacle but the 135 rear hub spacing puts me off.

Surly's Karate Monkeys nice and I don't mind the track ends at all. With some lighter wheels it might be quite nice and just read there are drop outs for 142mm.

Carbon frame from China with BB30 and one of those eccentric adapters for the BB?

Singular Swift? New frames still available, 2.3kg in medium and EBB for singlespeeders. Will also take B+ rubber. But rear end is 135mm QR

Some of the trek bikes have very neat slidey dropouts. Stranglehold is the name iirc.

Try a stache if you want something fun

I'd try the Stooge, may seem heavy but rides really well, really playful and a "proper" EBB which doesn't slip.

I have a 2018 Unit which I have put SRAM 1x11, lighter 29er wheels and a 100mm fox fork in. Its a really nice bike in that guise and is about 25lbs so not heavy at all!

I've the Ramin 3+, great bike with EBB if you want single speed. They were doing frame and fork options as well when I bought mine.

I actually wanted the 135mm spacing as I thought I might one day want to run my Rohloff in it.

The Trek Stache looks lovely. very similar dropouts to Giants XTC Advanced but way over budget unless i go second hand.

I'd love a Stooge but they done make a small size. I need a 16" (or shorter) seat tube

The Santa Cruz sliding dropout system is excellent, I had a chameleon previously and it worked brilliantly. Could also have a look at highball. Both are *relatively* sensibly priced frame only.

I was in a similar position having owned a Unit previously and wanting similar but without the weight penalty. Ended up getting a custom ti frame from Waltly in China. Very easy to deal with and the frame quality is first class - you just have to wait a couple of months. Came to about £750 shipped so you could feasibly build something just about in budget, particularly if you’re going rigid.

What I would like to see is On-One bringing out a back to basic 29er Inbred or Scandal with new geo. Or maybe JamesO can give us a sneak peak of the new Pinnacle Ramins?

@mjsmke have you tried one? Stooge has very low standover, so the only issue would be if you want a longer dropper post.

Are they not prone to slipping? Especially in a carbon frame wihiut an aluminium insert?
