I have a 2008 Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc in immaculate condition - bought as a winter bike but ended up spending winter working in Amsterdam during the week so weekends were spent with my family instead.

A colleague has offered me £450 for it.

Standard save upgraded bar, stem and seatpost - all S-Works carbon fibre now.

Rode it this morning and I just can't stomach taking £450.

Do you think this is a fair price though? Current market/climate is obvioulsy favouring buyers. I do not need cash or space and if £450 is it then I feel I'll keep it and use next winter and obver this summer pulling my son in his trailer (other bike is a Santa Cruz Superlite!).

Whaduyafink?

a bike loses 25% as soon as it leaves a showroom.
£450 is a good price for what was a £799 bike almost 2 yrs ago

Doesn't seem a bad price for a quick and hassle free sale. Have you still got the original bar/stem/seatpost? You could remove the carbon fibre bits, pop the orginals back on then sell the CF seperately.

If he isn't offering enough money for you to be happy about parting with the bike then keep it. It doesn't matter what they've gone for anywhere else.

And haven't new bikes gone up in price? I'd expect that to feed into the s/h market too. S/H value isn't only based on the item's original price, it's also dependent on what the new equivalent would cost.

Price seems fair to me but 2nd hand prices often feel low - depends on how worn they look really. If a fair price is too low for you then keep it but is there really any point in keeping a bike you don't need if it still has some value - what could you use the money for? Or maybe split the bike and keep bits that would be useful as spares and sell the rest?

I thought the formula was 1/2 new price -10% a year?

However it is worth what someone will pay and also what you are prepared to sell it for

Price seems fine. But if I dont need the cash or space I keep my bikes and ride them later. Next winter you will only get the itch to buy another winter bike anyway and waste a load of money buying one.
Plus the Specialized is a nice bike and you dont get much stuff for £450 these days.

I still have a cove handjob frame waiting to be used again. Worth bugger all 2nd hand as it has a few dents and chips but will br fun when I ride it again and would cost loads to get another one like it.
