Hello
I know this is really going to go down badly, but I promise I'm not trolling. Due to a sudden medical condition I can't do anything strenuous or drive- bummer. I have a brompton folder with a 9xx serial number, which brompton reckon is 1989 manufacture. It's completely stock except for new tyres/tubes/rim tape. It was my grandad's and I'd bet my car (lol) on it having covered less than 200 miles since new.
Now as I see it I have 2 choices.
1- cycle the brompton to the train station, get the train to work. Cost; £10/day. Once I can drive again I've put lots more miles on the brompton, and otherwise nothing to show.
2. Sell the brompton and buy an electric bike (please don't hate me guys)- work is a 36 mile round trip and my current fitness level is awful; see above about medical condition and not doing anything strenuous. Advantages are when I can drive again I can still choose to ride in, saving me fuel money and keeping me fit.
So is the brompton a priceless antique or a worthless old hag? If it's antique; how do I sell it for what it's worth?
Serious replies only please!!!
I've seen worn out Bromptons get £500, I'd guess a bit less than that. eBay.
I was going to say £500ish. Brompton 2nd hand prices are bonkers.
Brompton second hand prices are bonkers. I stripped a c2000 Brompton and sold in bits. The frame alone fetched >£350.
Your's is an older one (slightly shorter?) but in that condition, it might be of interest to someone at a premium. If you want to sell it - eBay with £1 start and no reserve. It will go for decent money. Clean and polish - take lots of good pics.
I have a ‘92 immaculate Brompton and was thinking of selling about 4 months ago and unless I was unlucky it would only fetch about 350-400 on here, not the 500 mentioned in the earlier posts. You might get a bit more on flea bay.
Decided to hang on to mine.
breaking it you’re sure to get make more.
Have a look on eBay. As mentioned above, they go for silly money.
