Think we're heading to Grizedale and either Walna Scar or Borrowdale Bash at the weekend... Is it a mudfest out there or relatively dry?

Lakes are traditionally very wet as they are full of water.

The lake district is always dry - it's built on rock. And it's even been lovely clear and cold recently, so very little mud.

Fanks! That was what I was hoping for (though I'm sure it'll be fun whatever).

Sunny, blue sky, big shiny yellow thing visible, no clouds at all.

Stunning winter/spring weather the last few weeks. There's still winter climbing to be had on the high crags, ground is rock hard for good biking even off the "main paths" ;-)' and the sun is everywhere. Very happy!

Grizedale was fantastic at the weekend. Haven't seen it that dry for MONTHS.

Quick, before it rains again !!

Just be aware that the Malcolm Wilson rally goes through Grizedale on Saturday so many of the forest roads will be locked down.

Weather up here has been fantastic though, hope it holds for the weekend!

I can guarantee that it will be raining somewhere in the Lakes at any given point in time.

It'll be pretty hilly.

Cheers Cammer, we'll bear that in mind - I think Grizedale was planned for Sunday anyway.

Also a bit of a PSA :

There is a lot of felling work going on in the forest at the moment, so you'll need to be aware of really big lorry's and chainsaws. Because of this, there is also a section of the NFT which is closed as they are logging around it. Don't try and go through as the trail does not exist there at the moment, but I'm sure it will all get repaired when they're finished.

Also it is bleedin freezin, so bring lots of winfdproof gear.

Freezing I can live with!

Will definitely be aware of the felling, do you know if it affects any of the bridleways in the forest? We're planning on a loop from Hawkshead taking in bits of the NFT then Grandad Dad and the Dentist, Red Mist and Hole in the Wall (I think they're called!).

Hole in the Wall is closed, but the rest should be ok.

If in doubt give the shop a call for updates

Claife heights and kentmere were stunning at the weekend - much less of a mud fest than I was expecting. Frozen in places, but looks like there hasn't been as much rain as the peak - or it drains better

Ah cheers for that. We usually finish on Hole in the Wall then head up the road to Hawkshead, what would be a good alternative? Would sooner not miss Red Mist!

Pick and choose from the Bridleways on the map tbh.

There's some more inspiration for you here
