Just ordered some new gear cables. However I've noticed the adjusters that screw into the lugs on the down tube are broken. What on earth are these called? The gear cable section on CRC doesn't have them? Also will I die if I don't bother replacing them and just put the outer cable directly into the lug without the screw thing at all?

if you have adjusters at the shifters and/or the mech then you dont need them. But you may need to replace them with outer stop ferules depending on the dimensions of the outer guides themselves.

are they like this:

Thanks guys. Those are certainly the offending parts. There are adjusters on the thumbsifters so intend to lose these bits if possible.
