So, fitted a new chain on a used (6 months) single chainring and cassette (sram 11 speed) and now if i try to shift 2 or 3 gears at once either up or down the chain jumps off the front ring
Now it's either new chain not "working" properly on worn chainring/cassette or could it be that the chain is too long?
There's also a "rough grinding sound" being made from cassette I think
The chain may be a link too long but I measured it up against the old chain but didn't want to shorten it too much if you get me
Any ideas?

Is your chain the right length? Is the derailuer "tightening" properly or just moving sideways? Pure guess work on my part of course.

Like I say the chain might be just a tad too long, but I didn't want to cut it too short as I've made that mistake before.
It was a half a link or so longer than the old one...

Out of interest did you check the old chain with a wear gauge before you replaced it?

Is the chain a directional chain?

if the chain is over worn then it could have damaged the cassette and/or chain rings.

Very - the cassette is pretty much toast, unless you use it with pre-worn chains.
I swapped the first chain before .7mm, then I kind of slipped the second one past .7 - a new (third) chain was unusable; I ended up reusing the first chain and even that skipped on the 10 and 12 for a while.

I'd try a new chainring first.

Even if it's not that, you can keep the new one for future use.

Edit: just noticed the bit about the chain being 1mm worn - you might be better putting the old chain back on and riding until it stops working

Cassette wouldn't be toast. It just won't mesh so well with a new chain. Don't bin perfectly good components just because Park Tools tell you to.

Chainring however, if it's a narrow wide is probably alloy and they tend to wear quick. Then they start dropping the chain, even if the chain isn't that worn. Just replace the chainring.

That said I'd expect more than 6 months from a chainring. New chain might not work so well with a worn one, though if it is a narrow wide I'd expect that to work with most condition chains.

Me too, but I did have an Uberbike one start dropping the chain after about that long.

When I went 11 speed I kept measuring the chain, much like I did with 9/10. Seems that my 11 speed chain missed out .75 and went straight to 1.0.

So just ran the lot to 'death'. All new now plus bought a checker with a 0.5

Looking into it further it appears the chainring is the issue I think.
The chain just jumps off it at the same point every time.
There's no obvious tooth damage.
Its sram x sync chain ring direct mount I think, but there's two version available.
0 offset and 6mm off set.
How the hell do I know which one I need?

Do you have quick link on the chain? If you do are you sure its joined properly? I fitted a new chain and cassette at the weekend and the quick link was a bugger to push together, it went together fine but struggled to get it closed the last mm. Normally the slide together fine but I had to put needle nose pliers in the links either side of the quick link and open the pliers to force the link fully closed. Only reason I noticed was the the chain was jumping off the front ring and sticking going through the jockey wheel.

Yes but I've used quick links for years and never had an issue opening or closing before just using fingers. But if I want to take the chain off I will need to buy those.

0mm is supposed to be better for boost rear ends, but opinion varies.
6mm offset is the standard one.

You guys are surely confusing 1% wear with 1mm?
