I have a Giant own brand seatpost which I'd like to replace for an inline one and save some weight too if possible. I have no idea how much my Giant one weighs but I'm wondering what kind of weight would be fairly light for an inline post? Superstar do them at around 280 grams. One with lines on would be good too.

Thanks.

My Thomson one is 190 grams...

Sub-250 is what I'd call 'lightweight'. Below that, stuff starts getting expensive.

280 is fine though, unless you really want to keep the weight down for racing or something.

Something around 150g to 200g should be light and still reliable.
Thomson Masterpiece is my choice, about 180g for the 350mm version, pretty much bombproof and if you shop around can be had for around £120.
If you really want to save some weight have a look at a Schmolke TLO post, 350mm version is a claimed 91g. May be a bit more delicate though and £400 isn't excatly cheap. http://www.schmolke-carbon.de/carbon/carbon_uk/details/stuetlo.php

OK thanks. I'm not a total weight weenie but my bike is in serious need of a diet and I reckon I can shave over 1kg off the weight with some fairly cheap upgrades.

Thanks, they look great. If only they did them in 30.9mm 🙁

It seems that the Giant A3 post is about 300g so I'd of thought I can find something lighter than that. Bit skint at the moment so not looking to spend more than about £30 quid.

If you weigh less than 80kgs, then aim for under 200gms. I've bought a KCNC Prolite @ 139gms, been for big rides in the Yorks Dales and so far so good, but they look fragile. I think they are around £85 new, but I bought it off STW classifieds for £45 as new. The only downside so far is the finish appears to be wearing off quickly below the seat clamp level, so not ideal if you are a seat post shuffler. Thomson are a good all rounder, mine weighs 291gms, but I could afford to lose 100mm off the length, it's sat in the cupboard hoping for the KCNC to snap.
