... Shimano Deore LX hubs (circa 2004?) where the elbows of the spokes slotted into grooves on the hub body, rather than lacing through holes on a flange?

The groove/machined location taps for the spoke heads had a tendency to break

I had one in Deore flavour, the axle snapped. Seemingly they had quite a habit of doing that. No sad loss, it was on a Ditch Witch anyway.
