You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have been making 2 aline styley switchbacks 🙂 they ride nice too. Sorry but I'm buzzing
55 mile road ride in the sun, very pleasant.
I have been running instead, down the water of leith to Stockbridge and back again. 9km with no shin pain, yay! :))
Recovery day after getting my legs pulled off on yesterday's ride.
Cleaning and regreasing the bearings on my XT All Mountain wheelset. What joy 😕
Looking at STW a bit. Would go out this eve but it is herself's birthday and the bairn needs a bath.
I built up 6 bikes this morning then serviced a mates bike this afternoon. No actual riding though.
rode 2miles to work this morning, rode 2miles home for lunch, rode 2miles back to work and am about to ride 2miles back home - might just take different route though and make it 3.
Kev
I've looked at this site for the last 5 min's, that's as bikey as today has gotten for me!
Mister P... 6 bikes in a morning !
1 every half hour or so 😯
it takes me that long to replace a gear cable.
I've been fitting a nice new Thomson stem, it looks lovely. A fairly easy job, just requiring a little filing of the steerer tube to stop is bottoming out on the pre-load cap as the Thomson stem has a fractionally lower stack height than the stem it replaced.
Went out for a couple of hours pootle after lunch. Started doing a bit of practise on a couple of sections that I feel I always lose speed on but decided it was too nice a day to take it seriously so went and sat by a lake in the sun for a bit, which was nice.
Edit - oh, and 'did my bit' for trail maintenance while I was out too.
30 miles cheeky clifftop... lot's of ramblers.. nearly all pleasant.. found some big fly agaric mushrooms.. left them for the pixies after the events of last time...
didn't even ride to work 🙁
I have been making 2 aline styley switchbacks
are they wood?
Been building a new shed/workshop and then rode to school to collect the kids. Not done proper ride since the Brownbacks race last Sunday.
Avoiding work and browsing the internet.
Reviewing a draft of the first dig day report one of the volunteers has done for Gisburn Skills Trail. Circulating it back to folks and it's now up on the internet (see Ed O's blog on this site and here: http://www.singletraction.co.uk/index.php?fn_mode=fullnews&fn_id=115
Talking to someone in a "cycling organisation" about a trail development at Location X. Fingers crossed it's going to be good.
Chasing a landowner for a meeting as he wanted some design advice and not sure if the other guy I was talking to about it has managed to sort one out. Bit of a worry as it was back in early September.
Emailing an old associate who I've recently bumped into again about the set up of a MTB group in the NW and attending the next meeting.
Tried to work out which digs I can go to this month and what time I need to keep spare for the family.
Checked my emails umpteen times to see if the guy I emailed at Yorkshire Water regarding trails at Timble Ings has got back to me (no 🙁 )
Bought a set of Salsa Woodchippers for a project bike I really must build.
Tried to find the plan a volunteer did for the trails for which I'm supposed to be organising the dig day on Sunday (woo hoo, Norwood 😉 )
Ridign a bike - nowt. Stuff related to bikes and trails - quite a bit.
Maybe I'll get chance at the weekend 😎
nowt yet - off into garage with my son to fix his first puncture in a bit
First ride with my university bike club (and first ride since injury 6 weeks ago). Only 20 miles, and it was a bit wet and a bit cold, but really enjoyed it.
About time you did some digging Jedi!! First 30min ride after ankle surgery, best feeling to be back on again.
Fitting some Thule aero bars and ProRide bike carriers to my car, then loading the bikes and giving it a shakedown.
Rode 1 mile to and from work.
Posted some bike bits sold on ebay.
Strength session in the gym.
Eaten some dark chocolate.
I did a 28 mile ride this morning albeit on my turbo trainer and I've just stopped halfway through stripping down and rebuilding my Hewitt for tea 8)
Tonight I'll be having a look on net, trying to decide what singlespeed to buy 🙂
First local ride for ages. Slippy mud and nice singletrack.
thomthumb, no out of dirt 🙂
Rode into work across the Quantocks (15 miles), then took the scenic route on the way home, over to the edge of Exmoor (30 miles).
Applying some rather lovely bike monger stickers. My dandy horse is now officially better than yours, should you choose to come to the yard and check it out...
2 & 3/4 hours off road on the north yorkshire moors. moderate pace with my brother for company. fantastic riding conditions, light wind, sunny but cool temperature. filthy and very wet from lots of recent rain. hot tukey sandwich and tea sat outside the cafe at the end.
went for a massage then back home and cleaned my stuff, fitted a rotor and saddle that came in the post while i was out.
tinkered with somebody else bike/fork for them and watch them ride away very happy.
80km round West Lothian and Lanarkshire. Lovely day for it too.
Just got in from a pootle. Spent more time picking mushrooms & nicking corn on the cob than riding!
Work all day today, boo 😥
But I've treated myself to a new i7r for my 5spot in a quiet moment, yay 😛
Took my summer tyres off my bike after some very sketchy moments on Sunday's ride. Looking forward to slippy roots and mud now.
30 miles in the Chilterns this morning, bought a Mud X from my LBS this afternoon.
A lot of riding arround Berkshire picking up bits for this 😀 very happy bunny after the car park test (although the big tyres and fork make the BB feel verrry high now!)
MIDGETS MONKEYS AND MAN CAVES
Riding up and down road, bedding brakes in before trip to Wales.
Fitting front mudguard.
Browsing on STW a bit.
Erm, that's it.
got all excited about my new bike arriving - cleared out the bike store ready for it so my wife dind't complain too much about another new bike then cursed when I found out it had arrived but isn't going to be ready for a few more days.
Then I thought I'd finaly service my forks only to find out no shop in town sells 15wt fork oil! Doh!
Plus I dreamed about getting out in this gorgeous weather!
35km commute into the city centre, almost run off the road by a bus, just another day!
made my bike back dual ring, my home made chain device inevitavley failed as the chain fell of the roller every so often on the rough stuff. and basicly did my routene check of all the bolts.
Booting it about just below Trevor Quarry near Llangollen.
Today, I have done bugger all bicycling.
I moved mine out of the way of the mower.
Cycle tomorrow morning.
50 sunny miles on the road bike with a stop for coffee and cake about halfway. Happy days 😀
Just fitted Spesh vari-angle stem on my bike correctly after getting it built back-up by the LBS. Thought the stem assembly looked weird, checked the Spesh website regarding the 5-star top cap and shimmed stem and find they've installed it wrong. Only about 5 instances of 'never', 'must not' and 'this cannot be emphasised enough' warning of exactly the thing they did wrong......grrrrrr.
Swapped tyres over to mud tyres for D2D on my Inbred wheelset to take with me.
Fitted Spokeshirt light helmet mount on helmet
Went into garden & took some beamshots (to post in a mo).
Still need to write list of stuff for packing tomorrow for D2D.
came home early this morning from working away (unexpectedly) to wake my 6yr old daughter on her birthday. opened a few presents with her, then she went to school and i went to bed.
got up this afternoon and took her 'real' present (her new bike) down to school with me, and we rode the 2.5 miles back together.
should have seen her face, made my day 😀
Didn't ride 22 miles to work 'cos my left knee hurts and I'm knackered.
Didn't ride 22 miles home from work (see above)
Didn't do the Thursday night MTB ride with the lads (see above)
Hrmph.
🙁
Early night and try again tomorrow.
[EDIT] Just read anotherstan's post above mine, and feel much better about things now. That's what cycling's all about. Lovely stuff! [/EDIT]
I can't say 8)
An hour on the turbo this evening, sweating like a bitch.
We haven't had such a good summer here, so any good weather days have to be grabbed and used, so at 4.00p.m. I downed tools and rode locally.
Found some short, not to steep, sweet singletrack the other day through the local woods while out walking, so the chance came up to ride it. It left a big grin on my face all the way home.
Did a 20 odd mile ride with 2 friends from work.
Up around and over Cleeve common above Cheltenham and then some cheeky trails through Dowdswell woods! 😀
Today we provided Bikeability training to 18 delightful yr 5 children in North Northumberland..
Why is it that some boys just cannot resist lifting the front wheel over every crack/hole in the road...
Sun, fresh air and enthusiasm for being outon their bikes.. all in all a great day..
Did I mention we get paid too?
Just commuting, since my motorbike's off the road. 4 days commuting + an offroad night ride = legs like rubber. But just off to the garage to fanny around with the mmmbop and fix the wheel for the rigid.
9.5m of commuting
Fixing a couple of the kids bikes on my estate, while not fixing my Sram X9 shifting problems, and I'm riding tomorrow. 🙄 just have to put up with a jamming shifter.
Quick 7 mile road ride. Was going to do more but felt nackered and wasn't enjoying it enough. Then I rode around on my mtb for a bit trying to decide which stem length to go with. Keeping 50mm for now but will probably go up to 60 soon to give me a bit extra room.
40 km round trip commute on my road bike
fitted a new set of forks on my 456 can't wait till the weekend to ride and taken my brake apart to fix and now know that shimano brakes use a m3 x 8 bolt on their reservoir caps which i can get 20 for £1.52 so if anybody needs any let me know i'll send you 4 for the cost of a first class stamp
Thanks for asking jedi i didn't realised you cared so much
Testing out set up on new bouncer around local hill ready for t weekend. Back to the shed. Less sag. Faster rebound. Try again.
worked, drove, looked at bike wishfully
Went to Bedgebury mtb park in Kent with a mate. Spanked the red runs and even managed a 'black' run - it was light grey to be honest but, hey, I'm not telling anyone 🙂
15 miles commute to work in the frost.

Then 15 miles back in seriously heavy rain. Very, very muddy when I got home.
Moved it against a different wall and stared at the flat tyre wondering what the demon of slow punctures has done to my new tyre/tube combo.
rode to work
rode home from work the scenic way.
it had rained
clay/gravel/roots/dogpoo/tarmac.
shower.
fish and chips.
stw
In horrible shape at the moment and doing the Cat & Fiddle ride from Stoke on Sunday. Did a steady 20-25 miles on the road with a few quick bursts on the way home.
Commuted. God it was horrible this morning in the fog.
Nice coming home though.
Then night ride with dog and son through the local woods. Fun.
Dropped car off at garage road home 13 miles on horrid road bike. Nice route and nice to be out
But this took nearly an hour and I found it hard work so I'm not fit. Action required but we are about to loose the light
Moved MTB to shop as back brake lever going all the way to the bar without any resistance.
Moved road bike to different shop (from whence it came) as noticed crack in the seat tube.
Watched loads of people out on MTBs & road bikes between Rochdale & Bury while doing this.
Got phoned by bro as have just part paid (with parents) for complete overhaul of his bike for his birthday - very pleased until back tyre sidewall gave way.
Not having a good one, all in.
Andy
Got out tonite for first night ride of the season. What a cracker, been a beautifull day was a lovely clear stary night on a ribbon of green single track. Perfect! Home for a good coffe and post ride chocolate. Not a bad eavening!
(in lakes btw)
...and just now, while moving stuff around in the garage, knocked over my big crowbar and it fell in a perfect arc to slice the front tyre on my hemlock right down the side. Arse.
Repaired a few bikes
Sold a few bikes
Built a few bikes
Ordered a few bikes
Didn't ride any bikes, well except for round the shop!
rode in the Peak District - it was my birthday today, did I mention it was my birthday?
brilliant weather
just been to pub.
I was out on my bmx again...I did a big one hander over the hip at camden bowl! Shortly followed a rather harsh flat landing from about 6 feet up!
I've had a good day, collected my new dh frame at lunchtime, built it up this afternoon and rode my new xc bike after that. Sorted out all the bits I've got for sale and got them photo'd.
Hoping to ride the dh tomorrow now it's finished.
Replacing brake blocks on an old bik that are not designed to fit.
They work. Top !!
high 5 for all the people who rode bikes today!! 🙂
Sold some Wheels to Steveh above and trued up a rear wheel!
Maybe ride tomorrow if weather is ok
Managed about 3 hours in the afternoon sun in Swinley, mostly stuck to the singletrack.
Got shown a new bit by a mate. Returned the favour, and got home just as it got dark. Nice
Offered up a 29er wheel to a meta 5.5.2 frame so see how much would need cutting out to make it fit 😯
considered a 4" travel Meta 69er instead
decided to have a word with myself and Enjoy the scandal
Put my lights on charge!
Finished work at 1.30, just got in after going the long way round the back roads for an hour. A lovely warm windy night tonight (the weather sort of wind).
First proper off-road, in the hills ride for many a month post holidays and hand injury.
Really, really suffered 😕 Long time since I have felt so bad 🙄
1st of many climbs but the only dry, mud free one:
