So, as the title suggests - I'm after wheelset advice.
I'm currently looking at either a set of Mavic Crossrides (which I had before in an old v-brake incarnation and quite liked) or a set of XT hubs on DT swiss XR400 rims - both are available from actionsports and come in quite under budget.
Has anyone got any opinions on either of these or any suggestions for other things to consider?
I was toying with spending a bit more and going for some Hope Hoops, but I'm not entirely convinced they'd be any better than the XT / DT Swiss combo - although I would like that noisy freehub. Again, if anyone's got any thoughts...
Thanks.
I'd go for Hope hubs myself just purely because the ones on my bike have been faultless over the last 18 months.
I had XT hubs on a bike back in 2008 and to be honest the bearings and seals didn't hold up that well.
The customer service at Hope is really great as well.
A set of Hope Hoops on Wiggle is £267 with the extra 10% off, not too sure if that's the cheapest though.
Sun Ringle Black Flag Expert - £185 on Chain Reaction including Stans yellow tape, valves and sealant.
Bargain and almost certainly lighter than any wheelset using XT hubs.

Got the same but from merlin, at that price they look like an absolute bargain. Check out the crc price for the rear hub alone!

DT240's are really great hubs, definately a bargain 8)
Those wheels are around £470 at Merlin!!!
Thanks for the advice so far...
The Sun Ringle set is out as I need 9mm quick release.
Id have gone for the DT240s on Mavic rims in a shot, but I need them posting abroad (Hungary) and sadly the seller won't do that.
So, If anyone's got any other suggestions, that'd be great.
Post them to Hungary yourself or via someone on here?
Shame he won't post the DT/717 wheels. They look great and I've dealt with that seller before and no problems there.
I've got a set of DT 370's on 717's that have done very little.
Came new on my Anthem Advanced, but I took them off when I built a new set.
Not sure on where to value them, £150 + postage?
Roval Control Al - £179 from Evans - tubeless, wide and 1575g?
Hope hubs, mavic rims and dt swiss spokes is the only sensible way to go, and get them off a good wheel builder. They will last till way past you being bored of them.
DT 240 hubs are great till they crack on you and you are left with a worthless piece of metal
See here (it is an older one but hardly used, google cracked DT 240 and you will see what i mean
