I've just found a crack on the swing arm of my frame, i'm driving out to morzine next friday morning. The frame isn't under warranty so im going to check if anywhere in the UK has a swing arm I can buy tomorrow but failing that can anyone think of a good back up plan? I had the shock specially shortened to fit the bike so it wont fit in anything else so currently im looking for a 160mm frame that will fit my parts including a tapered headtube and a bolt through.
What frame is it? Could be handy info...
I think it's good you found it now rather than riding Morzine.
Explore all the options, put wanted ads up, good luck.
It's a Trek Slash, It's not snapped through just a crack.
Plenty of old Nomads about that would suit the job.
Have you asked Trek? They may not offer warranty but a decent deal on a new chainstay
Mate found a crack on his EX frame. Trek took 3 weeks to get the rear upper arm to shock pivot under warranty, as had to come from USA. Would have cost £200 if he had to pay it. We borrowed a swing arm off a mates bike, as we were going to Spain 4 days after he found it.
I'd buy another frame now, so I had time to build it up.
Had to do something similar for last summer's trip in fact.
buy a frame off pinkbike/singletrack/ebay to use while in the alps
Get it welded. A good welder and a reinforcement gusset should do the job.
