Ok, so my Yeti was stolen... 🙁
But the insurance company are paying out 😀

So I get a new bike! I think I want a hardtail, something light for all day riding and adventure racing, quite like the idea of 2x10, tubeless, not a 29er. Looking at around £1400, and so far have found:

2011 Whyte 905
On One Whippet X9 Carbon
2011 Cube Reaction Race
Cannondale Flash F1
Scott Scale 40

Anyone want to play fantasy bike buyer?

not a 29er

for that reason i'm out.

i'd probably have the cube off the list, though 🙂

You could buy my Giant XTc 1x10 at a very good price if you fancy it?
Spec list on 'For Sale' forum.
Asking 1400 but open to offers - sorry about the hijack 😆

From your list: Whytes are nice to own and ride. Great backup etc. Not had a 905 - but a 19.

As for off the wall / fantasy : what about one the German brands?

eg http://www.canyon.com/_uk/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=2542

£1300, 10.6kg.

The carbon version (albeit twice the price) reviewed here:

Rose also do their own brand stuff that also looks great value.

Cotic would be jolly nice. Do you think you could build it up for 1400 though?

Frame 480, forks 400, wheels 200, brakes 200... All adds up so fast!

I picked up a wicked Cotic frame on Singletrack last month for £180 - lots of nice kit from a German outlet and you'll have yourself a wicked machine!! 😀

if you got the cash and stuck to the forum you could get an excellent build for a goof bit less than 1400, and have a trip to the Alps next summer 😉

Ah. 🙁
Didn't see that one but did wonder about a Zesty, and a couple of other Full sussers (Yeti 575).

Anyone owned this type of bike - aren't they a bit heavy for long XC racing? (In AR we tend to spend a long time carrying them, so weight is kind of important)

Cheers!

I ride a Zesty and a Cotic and both are great fun

The Zesty really is a 'do it all very quickly' type of bike which i've raced a few times

It goes up hill better than my old hard tail, is very comfortable and is incredible on the DHs. It suits me well for away rides to proper hills

The Cotic is a wonderful playbike which i've also raced. its just as fast down most of the tracks around the Surrey Hills as the Zesty. I'd prefer my Zesty on an epic ride though

Thanks Jon, that's useful info. Monday is bike day, if nothing jumps out at me in the shops of Sheffield then it's forum and building time!

Right, thanks for all your great advice guys... As it happened I was offered an un-turn-down-able deal on the Cannondale Flash so am now very much looking forward to sunday...

Cheers!
