As title....what do people reckon?
Just curious like... 😀
Have you got the same turbo as me ?
The same as a length of string in cm. Any less and you're a loser:D 😀
How heavy are you?
My first test (outside) was 3.3 W/kg
Are you using a proper power meter? If you're not then whilst virtual power can be consistent it definitely isn't tremendously accurate.
One that you improve on significantly when you do your second test.
OK - think I'm getting the idea of subjectivity of scores.
Doing it later. Never had any stats before so all new to me.
I guess i thought there might be some averages. E.g. If i was timing someone running a 100m, irrespective of individual person's size etc, you'd know that 100m ran in 13secs is good compared to it ran in 50secs...
By that measure an FTP of 4.5w/kg is far superior to one of 1.5w/kg. I've seen both ends of the spectrum!

Going by that sort of standard, for a bloke.
Less than 200, 🙁
Greater than 300 🙂
+ all the caveats mentioned by others.
It's also worth noting that an ftp test is also a test of how well you can do an ftp test..
i.e. improvements can be had at first by just improving your pacing of the effort.
Useful responses cheers, helping me to understand it. Just seen the long running STW TrainerRoad thread pop up too and think that'll be useful for me to read..

Very much this. Also how experienced you are on the turbo, which does tend to consists of long even pace intervals. So if you're a typical trail mtb rider you'll likely be rubbish at doing the test at first. However if you're a seasoned time trialist you'll probably feel right at home.
To make it interesting tell us what setup you're using (PM or virtual power, which turbo), your weight, and what sort of riding you do. Then we can all place our bets 🙂

There's an STW team here. Shame TR don't really make more of the team thing. Huge spread of FTP too if you look at the members.
Oh and [url=
]this chart comes up a lot in these sorts of threads. Use the FT column along with your weight to work out an FTP.
Mr Blobby - I'm up for a laugh. Place your bets - I'm 72kg, using virtual power, Cronofluid Elastogel (think that's in the right order), and mtb'er only. Couldn't classify my riding really, bit of everything. You've got till 5pm to place your bets....
220 based on the default ftp being 200 and the 20 min test having 220 as the target during the 20min
I'm going to do the 8 min test....
I'm going to place my bet at 236, but you'll have trouble pacing the effort. Anything less than having to swallow a little bit of vomit or slow acquisition of tunnel vision at some point and you've not really tried hard enough. 🙂
I'm going 242. I think he's got it in him 🙂
So - after watching the vid about how to do it (not blow up etc) I found a pace very early on into the first 8min interval that I knew I'd be able to maintain for both intervals. So I sat at 250-260.
No vomiting etc. So guess I didn't try hard enough. 😆 Definitely could do harder and I can see how the whole pace thing is a skill to itself.
Score - 225, 3.04kg/w.
It's only half 4 - change your clock
