A 20 tooth cog on the Alfine and a 32 tooth cog on the chainset?
Only asking because that's what I've got / getting. And I hav no more money for extra bits like a new chainset.
Wild stab in the dark, it will be ok going up steep inclines....?
yes, fine.
about the same as just running a 32 front with a 9speed cassette.
you lose the very bottom two gears that you would have with a granny ring, but the rest would be overlap with equivalent middle ring gears.
An 18 gives you a range of roughly a 9 speed.
I'm running a 32:18 and its fine for the Peak
You would be breaching Shimanos recommended gearing numbers, so you might find that you are stressing it and it could fail. For a 20 tooth rear, you should be running at least a 38 tooth front.
oops, where's this recommendation list? I bet I'm running it close.
genesis i0 has a 32 - 18 set up when sold.
