After flailing around blind yesterday at Aston I've decided a front mudguard may be of benefit. I've used the rrp in the past, but the motorbike noises at full travel put me off. What are those mucky nuts jobbies like?

Like the RRP, but better and mostly sans motorbike noises (stuff occasionally gets caught between it and the tyre).
mucky nutz, good bit of kit...according to my buddy they are overpriced plastic tat, and I can see why people think that being as it prob cost about 5p to make...but they do the job nicely and keep the crap away from the stanchions. good for rear mudguards too keeping the crap out of linkage etc.
if its good enough for most on the dh circuit then its good enough for me...ditched my old downtube crudguard now and the innertube between fork crown/brace.
Neoguard works a treat for me, no problems at all.

Sounds like it's the mucky nutz then, neoguard is ok on the trail bike, but the motorbike noises really annoy me. Cheers all.
You can make your own muckynutz-a-like using a 4 pint milk bottle and some zip ties. Works a treat, looks the same, costs nowt 🙂

I have always used fork mounted ones - ShockBlade or Topeak Defender, which are easily taken off for less manky rides. I suspect they give better coverage than a mucky nuts/crud catcher combo, but curious to know...
RRP paired with a crudcatcher. I never get a spec of mud on the front despite rubbish conditions and about unobtrusive as you could get.
The new Crud Catchers work really well... I also use Mucky Nutz and they are brill.

2.1 or XL?
I've used a Shockblade and the Crud Catcher/Mucky Nutz combo. I'd say there's no difference in coverage apart from the Mucky Nutz keeping crap off the fork stanchions.
Is it worth going with the XL option? Must admit I prefer the look of the others, but if it makes a difference...

The Muckynutz XL isn't exactly unobtrusive, but works brilliantly - was really wet at Cwmcarn on Saturday but didn't get any crap in the eyes or face at all.
Tempted to turn it into a bender fender 'mid' version with a bit of trimming off the front, just to make it a bit less obvious.
Thanks Twin, it just looks a bit.. maybe with a trim it would be more acceptable.
