Having torn the bead on my back tyre, I'm going to replace the lot (since the front is shagged as well).

Bike is an M9, mostly UK-based riding, with 26" Mavic 823 rims. I'm thinking maybe High Roller IIs, 2.4" front and rear...

What compound / bead should I be looking for for UST-compatible DH suitability? I used to run the UST-specific HRs in 42a front and 60 rear, but that options seems to have disappeared - it's all EXO stuff now 😕

Maxxis dual plys with some sealant in them. I'd like some Shorty's for winter & new Minions for drier spells.

Someone, possibly On-One, had cheap UST MAxxis recently

Thanks for the input so far... On-One don't have HR2s though! Or would Minions be a betterer option?

Will the HR2 DH seal up tubelessly ( http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/maxxis-high-roller-ii-dh-tyre/rp-prod70747), or am I better off saving weight with the EXO version ( http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/maxxis-high-roller-ii-exo-tyre/rp-prod77864)?

Dual ply High Roller or Minion DHFs front and rear. Reliable and robust.

I tried a Shorty this winter and would say it was good but preferred my Wet Screams (both my full and cut down pairs). I think I'll be sticking with the 2.5 Super Tacky Wet Scream on the front and a Shorty on the rear for apocalyptic wet conditions and Minion DHF 2.5 front and rear for all others (T front, MaxPro rear).

Not had a proper play with the New Minion DHR or the HR2 yet.

I run the EXO tyres on my AM bike but dual ply is better for DH

Dual Ply HR2 super tacky on the front and dual ply 60a Minion DHR 2 on the rear. Both 2.4 and brilliant tyres. Runnning them tubeless with sealant on stans rims but not sure if they'll work tubeless with 823's

It depends, do you want one tyre to do it all? HR2 is fantastic imo but the knobs are shallow so it doesn't have a lot of bite in mud (though, it does clear mud well). I'm not sure I'd choose it for year-round, it does OK in mud but on the big bike I was never happy with tyres that do OK...

Depends where you ride most and conditions?
I've just swopped over from minions to magic Mary's and find them alot better as an all round tyre.

I'm using dual ply super tacky minions, work great all year round, including trips to France. Have run them tubeless on my Stan's Flows with no issues.

If its muddy, then will stick on a set of Maxxxis shorty's, prefer them to screams as they are a little more versatile, less squirmy on the hard pack, rocks and roots compared to screams.

Specialized Butcher DH 2.3in is great on the front, sizes up like the traditional Maxxis 2.5in tyres.

I'd probably go DHR2 on the rear - just got an Exo one on my 29er and it's brilliant.

I had Minions on my DH bike and use them for uplift days and don't really like them.

However, I tried to single ply fronts on my hardtail and really liked them - I think its the DHR that I don't like.

I'm a big fan of High Rollers and find that they do OK in most conditions.

I have a Magic Mary on the front of my Banshee and think its brilliant as an all rounder. In the super gravity version it'd be a great DH tyre.

I haven't used the Butcher DH enough to have a good opinion but the design brief was obviously "a better minion" and that's exactly what the other versions are... The Control's a wee bit hard but the DH uses what I think may actually be the same rubber as CST use for the Maxxis supertackies. Always worth a look but they're not that cheap.
