My tyres are quite worn and I have a race coming up so I might maximise my chances with some new tyres which will suit Afan or really any natural 'enduro' stuff.  Was planning on leaving my Magic Mary on the front as it has some life left in it but my Hans Dampf has had it, been planning on replacing it with a DHR2, what are your recommendations?

Mary/Hans dampf... All conditions

Minion DHF 2.5/Minion DHR2 2.4... dry to damp

Shorty 2.5/Minion DHR2 2.3... damp to wet

If you're talking steep, natural trails.

If you're talking Afan trail centre.... Fast rolling tyres instead.

Mary F / DHR2 R is my prefered combo for natural enduro trails most of the time. Really wet I might change the front for Shorty 2.5 WT. As said for the trail center stuff something faster, My choice would be DHF F and Aggressor R, but many would go for faster tyres than that.

Mostly agree with Rickon except for the "all conditions", hans dampfs are pish, always rather have the dhr2 if you want grip or a semislick if you don't. Minion/rockrazor is a nice pair

Shorty 2.5 is my cheater tyre and if it's wet some of the afan offpiste is pretty fierce, I wouldn't hesitate.

If you're not good enough to already know the answer, you're not good enough for it to actually matter to where you'll finish 🙂

LOL i was half kidding... but it's kinda valid ? If you're at the sharp end, you already know the answer... if you're battling for 50th place, you would only be in 48th with the right tyre and 52nd with the wrong one.

The clear answer is... whatever tyres you like usually. Don't go super tacky gravity type.. other than that anything from Hans Dampf to Trail Boss, Vigilante to Minions to Ardents... it won't matter at all.

Something that will stay inflated and you're used to riding on.

Recommend me an Afan proof semi slick that rolls as well as a Rock Razor but without the weight and width limitations of a Slaughter Grid?

The Rock Razor in 29 doesn't come in a beefier gravity version.

That doesn't make sense? You want a SG Rock Razor, but don't want the weight of a Slaughter Grid (whish is basically the same as a SG RR?

I'd say the Slaughter Grid. Its basically a better Rock Razor 🙂

What do you mean by that? Slaughter grid now comes in a 2.6 that measures more like a real 2.4 if you think the 2.3 is a bit skinny

Not in 29 it doesn't. I have the Butcher in that width.... I stand to be corrected though?!

Nope you are right, I hadn't noticed there wasn't a 29er version of the bigger Slaughter
