Im after a new set of tyres and would like a bit of advice on which one's to get.I ride mainly in the peak district and have only been moutain biking properly for the last year (and loving it) so im inexperienced when buying new kit.I currently ride maxxis ignitor 26x2.1 at minute but would like bigger tread but unsure how big to go.Ive been offered a pair of schwalbe nobby nics 2.25 hardly used for £30 wondered if should get them.cheers

Hi what bike do you ride? You may find big tyres a bit tight on the chain stays of some hard tails. Worth checking to see how much clearance you have on either side of your 2.1`s before going too wide.

i wouldn't have the nobby Nics unless they are the strengthened version (called snakeskin) as the side walls will explode at some point! As a tyre however they are very good.

Ignitors are brilliant all rounders, but are stupidly expensive.
They do a 2.35 which is a great front tyre if you can find one for a reasonable price.
Sadly, all Maxxis tyres are horrendously overpriced as they are fashionable at the moment.

Specialized and Bontrager (owned by Trek) are good value at the moment - excellent performance too.

On-One have some very good deals as well. Their own brand tyres are usually cheap but again, excellent quality.

Never pay full price for tyres. There's always a sale on somewhere.

Try loads of different ones - it's good fun and gives you an excuse if you fall off. 🙂

you know when I look at the forums and questions asked,I think blimey this lot know an awful lot.
But when I go on biking holidays in the Alps, or ride Mountain Mayhem or 6hr or 12 hr races I never see the same tyres, bikes, brakes. In fact everyone has their own thing. You just want to try what you can afford and get some some decent tech advice from your local shop.
