From what I remember of doing it, it took a rubber mallet, circlip pliers, 10mm spanner/socket (a socket is good for having something to aim the mallet at) and hex-keys (can't remember the size right now, but a common one). Then just some oil to refill when you put it back together. There might have been something else, but it's all fairly ordinary stuff (the circlip pliers were the only thing I didn't have beforehand).

Yep...e.g. add 20mm spacer to reduce from 120mm to 100mm travel, lose 20mm of A2C height
