Currently have a 2016 Reba RL on my 29 steel hardtail. Its been a bit disappointing compared with my old dual air 26" model as it just blows through its travel.
So after some research was thinking to fit some bottomless tokens, get it serviced and some SKF seals and extend travel to 120mm. In theory it should be ideal for the riding I do but would I be better spending the money on a Revelation (older 32mm version) with the better RCT3 damper and is also a bit stiffer.
A s/h Pike seems best fork but maybe a bit overkill.
Thoughts and advice appreciated.
anyone?!
If it's an option, the stiffness and damping of a Pike would definitely be preferable. A (old) revelation would barely be a difference, and the weights are also negligible.
Thanks warpcow, it looks like the solo air Reba and Rev are okish forks, not up to their older dual air incarnations and the Pike is the better fork all round.
I was hoping mods to the Reba would improve it enough to keep me happy.
Obvious thing would be to try the tokens first and see if that does what you want.
Isn’t an older 32mm revelation just a longer version of the Reba?
If you’re blowing through travel some bottomless tokens should help with that. If your bike is ok for 120mm travel instead of standard 100mm I’d say it’s definiteky worth doing that, as well as a service. Likely to come back plusher and with a more progressive sprinh rate from the tokens.
Try one first and see if that’s enough - 2 should be plenty I’d think.
A Pike is the best answer but quite a spendy one.
Thanks everyone - good advice. Aye I think Ill go with the original plan for the Reba just now.
