What to do with an old Hope Vision One?

So, having a bit of a clear out and trying to overcome emotional attachments to what is fundmentally junk to me...
I've found my old Hope Vision One bike light that I used for commuting around 10yrs ago.
I don't commute anymore now I WFH, and the rechargeable light I picked up in Aldi for £15 is now more powerful and convenient if I need a light. The Hope light needs 4x AA batteries and that means faffing about with individual rechargeable batteries. I'm never going to use it again.
But... it's such a nice piece of CNC machined aluminium. I can't part with it to some anything-grabber on Facebook, it's not worth anything to sell and it's too nice to throw away.
So, if anyone here is in East Yorkshire and fancies picking up a nice, solid, outdated bike light then let me know. At least it'd going to someone who'd appreciate it then.

I have two and can't throw them away. Totally outgunned by a cheap chinese 'self contained' light !

I have Hope Vision 1 with a cracked battery holder. Maybe i'll try it with a few batteries to see if it still works.
I also have a Solidlights led light which I could do with up rating the leds and sorting out a new battery.

I took mine to the tip about a month ago after an extended period of saying 'it's too nice to throw away but it's too outdated to be of any use'.

It was joined by about 300 USB charging cables that were in the 'that'll be handy' box.

It's back in the garage for now. It'll probably sit there for a few years until I have another clear out. At least it's only small so not taking up much space.

If there was a simple usb rechargeable battery pack that fitted inside it then it might get a new lease of life.

B&Q have a bin for recycling small electrical items and also for batteries. I've no idea if it does actually get properly recycled but it's better than throwing them in the bin.

Buy yourself a driver, switch etc and new batteries and give it a new lease of life?

I've got an even older vision 2 (still has the screw connector battery flylead!) that i'm planning to do that with.

The cases and optics are pretty good, seems a waste to bin them when you could make a new, more powerful light.

I've got a (working!) Lumicycle HID sat in the shed - can't part with that either. And I don't ride anymore so there's zero reason for me to keep it! 🙂

Blimey I remember yonks ago when loads on here were buying the empty Lumicycle HID cases and building their own LED lights. I think Lumicycle clocked on after a short while and they became unavailable to buy!
I used to build the batteries (in my previous company) for solid lights. - If you email Martin he may be able to help you with the upgrade on the led's

I've an old Hope HID light (the one where the light and battery attach to stem faceplate) I'd love to (well, I'd like to pay someone) give this a revamp.

I did do a led swap many years ago to a newer Cree led.
I need to sort out the battery and the twist lock connector for the solid light battery charger.

My very early Exposure still sits un loved. Batteries died for the 3rd time and charging had packed up. Thread for mount has died as well but it is still too good to throw away!

@mert I have two of those with upgrades. One a led swap and the other led and driver. Burg fitted with push connectors now from the splitter cables that came with later hope lights. I've is spare now while the better of the two is permanently on my gravel bike. Also got a stern mount for one of them.

I have just had a look at the Solidlights website and the FAQs page has been updated with a few more details regarding the connectors, wiring and battery voltage details.
I might be able to resurrect my old light in time for next winter.

Just found my old Vision 4 in the shed. Must be 6/7 years since I used it, if not more. Connected the battery and it came on

So a couple of weeks on and this thread is living in my head rent free.

In what way are Hope Vision lights outdated? What are you all using now instead?

And if anyone wants to sell me one, my DMs are open.

Not that I've done much night riding in the past few years, but I replaced my Vision 4 with an R4+ - which I guess is pretty outdated now, but they are still selling them. Lovely little light though. Have a Joystick for my helmet

200 quid, weighs double, with the faff that comes with external battery packs (i.e. going into shops etc.). Spare batteries are best part of 100£ too, right*?

I've used that type of light in the past, but I found those type of lights are fine for messing about in the woods with my friends or certain commutes, but not for multi-day audax, overnight riding, utility riding, etc.

I guess I should have been clearer; LED tech has obviously moved on heaps, but I don't find the Vision lacking in brightness, its on a level with my Supernova dynamo setup. AA battery powered lights (in the front at least) still serve a purpose, so what are people using now that are a direct replacement?

*So if you want to do a 1000km+ audax with it, you're probably looking at 1 or 2 spare batteries, which pushes the price right up.

Ah yeah, I was forgetting that the Vision 1 was self contained
