I've got a crashed YT Wicked 650b with a hefty dent in the downtube that's been written off by the LBS and payed out by the insurance, leaving disposal up to me. Frame is obviously not safe to ride.

Chuck it in the recycling box with the tin cans? Stick the rear end (undamaged but an old model) on eBay incase anyone has a cracked one? Hang it on the living room wall?

I'd stick it on eBay and see what you get. You never know who's looking for what. I only opened this thread because I'm looking for damaged carbon frames to experiment with. If it was a carbon front end, I'd have made you an offer. Seems a shame to just bin it.

Sell the tail (and linkage). There is bound to be someone with a damaged frame they want to use who needs one. The front triangle is scrap for recycling.

Unsafe to ride?

Sticking the rear end on eBay sounds the best plan, I wouldn't feel comfortable riding the frame as it is and as such wouldn't feel right selling it with the front triangle even as spares or repairs/damaged.

That photo doesn't show quite how significant the dent is, sure you could still pedal around on it, but large jumps and drops would just be a matter of time before failure I'd assume.

If you can't be bothered unscrewing the rear end, you could cut a section out of the down tube to make sure nobody's going to try and ride it. Having said that it's probably easier to post the rear end on its own.

It is a pretty hefty dent, but to be honest I'd not feel too sketchy riding it as long as I was checking it very regularly for cracks (it won't last as well as an undented one, obviously!). There will be other people happy to just chance it, so if you're not happy with that then cut it. Also if it's been written off I'd feel dodgy selling the front end.

If I had some spare time on my hands I'd take the lot and try and build a steel front triangle for it. Could be a cool little project...

Id ride it til it actually cracked, then sell the rear end and make some wall art out of the front.

This does somewhat depend on your OH being into bikes i suppose.

I'm not sure the frame would just crack, if there is a total failure of the frame it might not end well. The wall art is a good idea although my wall art is only allowed to be displayed in the garage.

Ebay the rear and scrap the front. Simple low hassle route

Sell it as is on eBay (but maybe ask if they want the whole lot shipped when it sells). It's obvious what the damage is - if someone else wanted to repair or copy to rebuild that's up to them.

I'm amazed what gets worthwhile money on eBay. I sold a carbon road frame clearly labelled as having been in crash that snapped the forks - £60? cant remember. I just had a Seiko watch go for £80 as "spares or repair". It was absolutely battered, had a scratched glass and was non working (I'd been quoted £170 for a repair - likely a new movement, which is more than the watch was worth in fully working condition.

I'm fairly set on chucking the front triangle in the metal bin at work, it doesn't feel right selling it on where it would potentially get ridden, given it was paid out as a write off.

Follow up question, sell the rear end as a whole or split into chainstay/seatstay/rocker? I'm not expecting hundereds but a few quid would be nice.

i cut across seat and downtube and across chainstays of an old HT and created a penholder for my desk at work out of an old HT frame (pens went in the o/s downtube and seattube)

May not work as yours is a FS but maybe some kind of plinth for it to sit on and hold it upright.
