Hi, hoping someone on here will be able to help me. When out riding today i noticed that my forks (2010, Blackbox Revs) were not going through the travel as much as they usually do, when i finally decided to check the air pressures the + had lost around 30 psi, the - had lost no air so i pumped the + back up to its usual 90 psi but when i pushed down on the bars to test them like you do they were really stiff and the rebound was really fast. I removed all the air and the forks didnt decompress as they normally would, infact they were still quite stiff. I pumped them back up to the usual pressures and they are still totally stiff. Adjusting the rebound from fast to slow makes no difference, oh and the compession is unlocked!
Congratulations if you managed to make any sense of that!!
Am i looking at a leaking seal that a service would fix or is it likely to be something more sinister (and expensive)?
Any help would be really appreciated on this matter.

Do they move for a couple inches then stop? Sounds a lot like you're damper has just pissed itself into the lower legs. You can easily tell as they should only have 5ml in each side of the lowers, any more and it's dumped out of the damper

Im not at the flat right now so cant test the forks but i get what your saying and that would make sense mate. Im not much of an expert with suspension so if you dont mind explaining, what would make the damper do that?

the death of a 2 pence o-ring at the bottom of the damper.

The guides for stripping them down are all on the Sram website, it's a very easy job. However I'm not sure of the dimensions of the o-rings (there's an inner and an outter one at the base of the damper) but hopefully someone else is. Assuming that's whats happened of course

A service would sort it. Possibly new seals in the air cartridge too. Not difficult or expensive. If you're anywhere near Farnborough, Hampshire give me a shout, as I do this sort of thing from home,
email in profile.
🙂

Agree as per legends comment. Had same problem. O ring had a small nick in it. Easy job instructions on the SRAM site think I paid £12 for a complete seal kit for the damper. Worth having a go if your confident lets you appreciate how little there is in a set of forks. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. If i were anywhere near hampshire i would have taken you up on your offer for sure bud but looks like i either cough up to have a company service it which is blooming expensive especially as there is no one near me so i would have to have the forks collected or i have a go at it myself. Thinking ill have a pop at it myself.
