Hi chaps,

What length coil spring would I need for a 190*50 shock? I was assuming it would be a 2" stroke. But there's conflicting information online, and I'm getting confused!

It's on an Orange Five...

Anyone help clear it up?

Cheers

Ricks

2 inch stroke, you also need to consider the overall length so you can actually fit the spring, so fitting a longer stroke may be an issue.

2", or 2.25" will also usually fit. Above that you might not have enough room on the shock

Cool. I've got a 2" coil, so that's good.

Is there a reason why you'd run a 2.25 over a 2?

2.25 would give you room to accommodate any pre-load applied.

it depends on the make - fox don't quote the actual stroke of the shock. my bike takes a 216x63mm shock, CC is 2.5 where as fox is 2.8. The total length and the free space between the coils is the important part. The space between the coil must be big enough to allow the coil to compress (2.5 inches for me) without the coils touching.
