As per title really. Currently have a hard-on for a 2016 All City Cycles Nature Boy in purple (rim brakes), but it seems over-priced for what it is. Also have Surly Cross Check, Genesis Day One and (original Short or Long) Cotic Roadrat on my radar. Surely there's loads of other options out there?
Main criteria are: Steel, Horizontal (could be front or rearward facing) dropouts (poss EBB), room for 38mm tyres, chainstays not excessively long, preference for regular straight 1 1/8" (EC34?) headtube, either canti/V or disc brake, takes a ~ 400mm a-c fork (size wise, somewhere between 55-59). I will be running it flat/straight/alt bar, so perfect fit isn't paramount.
If you can think of and recommend anything in the sensible ££ arena, I'd be real grateful (The All City at £900 is probably at my ceiling of spenditure on a 'Whim Bike')... 🙂
I don't think there are loads of other options. I find it a bit bewildering too, surely it's not that niche? Furthermore. The pricing of the current offerings seems excessive to me for what are often fairly basic, heavy steel frames, thinking particularly of the day one which I own.
I wish Spa cycles would offer a horizontal drop out version of their touring frames and occasionally email them to suggest it.
It's also weird that you can order s custom ti frame from Taiwan quite easily but not a steel one unless you'll take 100 of them.
