I was all for ordering another purgatory for the rear but then started to consider something a bit faster rolling.

29 x 2.3 so what would you pair with front Purgotory?

Personaly I use a ground control on the rear as an all rounder just mind the light weight sworks version can be a little fragile for some

I find a purg on the rear excellent.

I liked the Captain I had on my old Specialized, rolled well but had plenty of climbing grip. If it's not muddy, a Slaughter would be good, minimal centre tread but with big shoulders.

You can get a 29er Slaughter - running one on my camber evo with a butcher up front.

Just got my local spesh dealer to get one in for me, but Google says you can get them from JE James, Rutland, and cyclestore.

I've got a control casing, which I've found fine, but some people say they are a bit fragile, (not as much as an s-works casing) so if you are hard on tyres you could go for the GRID casing.

Different tyres front and back? It won't look right.

Run Perg controls front and rear on my 29er , no problems at all great tyres ,loads of grip and good rolling too , so much so ,ive just changed my rear on my G150 to a Perg grid , shame on its its first outing it got stabbed with what appeared to be a roman spear , now running tubeless ,sealed well

Butcher on front Purgatory on the rear on most of ours, have run the same combination for a couple of years and they work great. Still got a few Enduro tyres but slowly running out of the stash.

Not using a purgatory up front (got a butcher) but have a ground control on the rear and if you ride somewhere rocky/are hard on tyres I'd go for grid casing. I've put 2 holes in mine (patchable) and have a large slash that hasn't gone all the way through.

Purgatory/Captain
Purgatory/Purgatory
Butcher/Purgatory

All good combos for me. Shame Spesh seem to be cutting back on 26 tyres.

Up until getting a new bike last month I ran Butcher on front ground control rear. So good that thinking of getting some for the new bike.

I've got a butcher/purg on the full sus and purg/ground control on the hard tail. The purg on the rear of the full sus has about had it and I'm that impressed with the ground control that's what replacing it.

All 26" by the way or I might have tried a slaughter.

On another note, Tracey where you out on Saturday, heading down Lockerbrook?

Put the purg on the back and get a butcher for the front, both control casings so negligible weight difference. Great combo.

Yes we were in that area on Saturday. Two Enduros and a Stumpjumper. Slowly trying to get back into it since I got the pot off my foot. Did alot better than I thought I would.

We are running the Control versions at 25 psi and tubes. Not much noticeable difference in weight. Bikes are built up fairly light.

Ground Control grid is a really good tyre.

Fair bit faster than the Purgatory and you can corner it quite hard.

I'm currently running a Purg Grid on the front and Ground Control Grid on the rear.

Previously I was running Purg front and Purg rear, but I found that setup a bit too draggy. As soon as I put the Ground Control on the rear things felt really good.

My local trails are super rocky pre-Alps stuff in Italy and I'm glad I went with the Grid option because they shrug off everything. I'd say the regular Control casings would be find for general UK riding though.

Captain is a gonner now. Apparently GC is what we should be using. I had one on the rear - was pretty quick, with slightly more grip and less pace than a Ralph.

Definitely Butcher on the front for me, I find it grips much better than the Purgatory around corners.

But where to buy a 650b Ground Control Grid in a decent width?
