I saw a video a while ago where someone was recommending a specific lube to use as a spare when bikepacking, in the situation where you usually use a waxed chain. Of course I can't remember what it was, or even what YouTube channel it was on. Can anyone suggest what it might be, or recommend something for this application ?

I have found that a little bit of Shimano Wet rejuvenates Putoline for many more weeks of riding.

Silca Super Secret or Tungsten.

Check out Zero Friction Cycling for recommendations regarding what top up lube to use on a waxed chain.

My recollection is that it was something hideously expensive. Silca Super Secret would certainly meet that criterion. ?

Super secret needs to be left for 12 hours prior to riding.

If you're after a quick top up, Silca recommend Synergetic (don't worry, it's equally hideously expensive).

I've used Smoove decanted into a tiny bottle I got given away at some cx event.  I'm not sure the actual brand matters so much as if you are at the point of needing to top up then once you get home you stick it all back in the putoline anyway.  This may not be the optimum solution of course

If you putoline yo9ur chain before setting off there is no need unless you are doing many hundreds of miles in filthy conditions

Thanks :-). I'm relieved to read that Silca wax comes in a sous vide bag. Now I can at last put to use some of the learnings from watching Masterchef 🙂 Or maybe what I need to do is take a bag along on my trip and just drop in to a Michelin star restaurant to rewax my chain?

If you putoline yo9ur chain

Not to start a holy war, but this would negate one of the benefits of waxing, viz, a clean-to-the-touch chain 🙂
